Thanks for all the great ideas. I'm going to try the ignoring thing, it's just so hard when he just so cute you wanna just grab him and hold him!!

I was greeting my pup outside because of the same problem but then I got a little tired of getting trickled on. After that, I wouldn't pet him at all until he went to the bathroom - almost the same as ignoring him, just a little different. Now he's able to control himself, has grown out of it, and it's not a problem at all.

One more thought - don't scold him for the submissive peeing. It just makes him want to be more submissive. If you have "The Art of Raising a Puppy" there's a story of a woman who had a dog with this problem. She used to scold the dog for submissive peeing which just made him do it more.

Good luck.!!!!

Oh yeah, if he's a pure breed with papers, dont cut his nuts off. You can stud him out and make some moolaa.... We missed out on a great opportunity last summer. Im still kicking my wife in the butt for that one :ohwell:

Too late! :lmao:

Oh, plus he turned out to have a genetic defect....

Thanks for the info. Mostly the problem is other people petting him. It's hard when people approach your dog to say please don't pet him, it sounds so rude. Even after you explain his problem to them, they still look at you like you hurt their feelings. Think I'll just have to stick with the belly band out in public.

Submissive Urination - Possible Resource

When I adopted a troubled shelter dog, I found the following book by Deborah Wood to be helpful: Help for Your Shy Dog: Turning Your Terrified Dog into a Terrific Pet.

I didn't read the info on submissive urination - my dog was rolling in other dog feces in an attempt to mask her own scent.
