who apparently is an inmate at Saint Mary's County jail? I've gotten a phone call three times now asking me if I'll accept the call. I thought it was a hoax, but I dialed the number back and it's legitimately the jail. You can dial 2 to leave money in an account and 3 to leave a message for the inmate.

What's weird is that it's my cell number and it's not like that's written on a bathroom wall or something, at least to the best of my knowledge. Half of me wants to the accept the call, I mean what if it's someone who thinks he has the right number and needs help and can't get it because I'm not who he thinks I am. The other half of me is all atingle with spidey sense.

Anyhoo if you know Stevie, he's in jail and I can't help. The number is 240-567-5600.

I didn't bother looking up the jail phone number, I merely dialed back what was on my screen. It's a recording without an option to speak to a real person. I'm thinking it not too unreasonable that it could be scam of some sort. At any rate, I blocked the number.

You know what? It might not be a bad idea to report it - just in case it's a new thing going around. I think I read somewhere that the sheriff put out something about scam warning people pretending to represent SMC. Hmmm maybe I'll do that.

So I called the sheriff's office who said yeah maybe you should report that I'll transfer you. Got a long recording that put me right back to the sheriff's office then another recording that they were away from the phone.

I tried. Screw it.

I keep texts supposedly from VDOT saying I owe for a toll. Way down in Virginia. Somewhere I would never be and I haven't even been in Virginia for a long time. This violation happened on March 26. Now they've going to suspend my tags for non payment. I blocked it.

I got one too! I bought a used car a few years back that had been a fleet car or something. Anyhoo the toll happened two months before I bought the car. Called them up and they agreed it wasn't me. This was five years after the incident.

Did you buy direct from the owner or a dealer? It should have had a new license plate. I bought mine from CarMax and received new ones.

Yeah new plates. Bought it from Donna at Jeep something whatever on 235. I think what Virginia told me was they had the plates and from the plates they were able to get the VIN and from the VIN the new owner i.e. me.

It's the circle of life.

Hello Dear.

I know there is an 'Inmate Locator' site for the state of Maryland. If you're curious enough you could search his name there, and/or the judiciary case search site. Sorry I don't have the links , but they are easy to find.

I checked that out earlier. Two Steve Thomas's both in Cumberland. Maryland Judiciary case search had a billion of them but none from St Marys

They'll send you a letter. And it doesn't matter if you were down there or not, their automated plate readers get it wrong all the time. It's a PITA to call because you will be on hold forever, but in my experience they don't argue when you say it's not your car.

you guys are living in the past! The inmate roster has Juan Torres-Jacinto-Ruiz, Alejandro Sanchez-Romero Santos, Angel Macio-Cohen, (figure that one out), etc....yeah....and uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Maryland is holding the for ICE..... yeahhhh, thats it....

Well... they are all out catching serial murderers and drug kingpins don't ya' know! That's why they are too busy to provide traffic enforcement and those pesky little things that cause accidents every... single... day. :rolleyes:
