Stopped at at ocho rios for the day on a cruise, first and last time I will stop there. Walked out of the fenced in area from the ship and we were surrounded by locals offering everything from tours to teeshirts. As soon as we got in sight of the fenced in mall and the security guards, all the locals left. Place was dirty and we heard from other people who went into town that it was even worse. Go to a dirrerent island, st thomas, st marteen, bermuda, aruba. The are plenty of places with beautiful beaches and resorts that are much nicer.

My kids want to go to the Bahamas

The Bahamas are extremely family friendly. I'd take kids there before I'd take them to Jamaica. My ex-boss used to take his kids to Nassau every year for vacation, and I've been to Port Lucaya on Grand Bahama Island and it was crawling with kids having a blast.

The water park and lazy rivers at Atlantis are fantastic, plus there's all the underground aquarium exhibits.

I would never consider taking my son to Jamaica. I did one trip there in Ocho Rios. It was one week all-inclusive. The property, Jamaica Grand, was nice but once you walked outside the "compound" you took your life into your hands. Dunn River falls was filthy. It should be called Dung River. We go to Aruba every year now. It is very family oriented.

Yeah, I would never even consider giving one single dime of my tourist money to Aruba after that.

exactly! We have family who have a condo there and have said "oh you should come spend a week here, just pay for air fare"... uh thanks but no thanks!

Be interesting to see a chart of crime rates, Island by Island.

I would expect the crime rates to be low considering the income received from tourism is the sole source of income for some of these islands. If they don't keep the crime rate down, the boats won't dock and even if the boats docked, the tourist would not venture out to spend spend spend.

Yeah...that was kinda my point. I know that the locals seem kind of pushy with trying to sell you things. But it's no different than peddlars in any other country...Jerusalem was just as bad but you had to watch for skilled pickpockets...Thailand way horrible...the list goes on and on...

It can be overwhelming at first, but really it's a testament to just how good we have it in areas like this...:buddies:

Beaches Turks and Caicos :yay:

I've heard nothing but great things about that.....next to Emerald Bay it's the best of what the Sandals franchise has to offer...

If you haven't seen the pics of Emerald Bay, check it out...just opened in Jan...the golf course is AMAZING.

Not sure when you were there.

This was my 2nd time.
I was working there last year. Stayed at the same place. We did all the computer work and access control at the new place called Mystic Mountain. It was awesome with the zip lines and bob sled runs. I thought the place was beautiful and very friendly. We went into the streets once or twice and had no issues.

Atlantis is perfect for families. The kids won't want to leave the water park area. The added a white water rapids river ride two years agon and the Leap of Faith is very cool. We'll be there in July.
