Anyone else have this problem with vitamins?

I have to take a multivitamin because of a blood clotting disorder - I need the folate, but every damn time I do,I feel like throwing up and dizzy for about the next two hours. I don't really want to mention this to the dr. since my only other option is a blood thinner, but does anyone else have this problem? Have you had any luck with any certain brands? The One A Days are kicking my a$$.

I throw up every time I take my multi before I eat. If I eat and then take it I'm fine. I read something a few months ago about the liquid vitamins not doing that but I haven’t tried them yet.

Sorry to hear you throw up,but glad to hear it's not just me. I tried googling it and all I was coming up with was that it was caused by either overdosing or a drug/drug interaction, and I am pretty sure neither are the case. I don't do the gummies or chocolate ones for that reason...I'd find my wife OD'd on the floor right before her period.

I have a HORRIBLE time with them..with food, without doesn't matter. They make me seriously ill and sick. I dreaded prenatals when I was preggo, they are the worssst.

However, my ob said I could take two flinstones chewables and those didn't bother me a bit. The gummies don't either, but are very pricey.

Also, you could try just getting the folate only pills. The single vitamin pills are much easier on the stomach..I took single folic acid pills for awhile and they didn't bother me either.

My wife is the same way so we use whole food vitamins (not Whole Foods.) These are food based vitamins and provide better absorption with minimal side affects since they are made from food. We buy New Chapter - Whole food Vitamins - Organic Herbal Supplements & Fish Oil from Amazon. With subscribe and save you can get them for less than half what the retail stores around here charge.

She has been on the Perfect PreNatals for 8 1/2 months now without issues.

I've switched my multi-vitamins around until I found one I do better with. However suggestions made to me were to eat first (didn't work) and to take before going to bed instead of first thing in the morning, which turned out to be the best option. I feel a little nausea upon first laying down, but it passes quick enough and I go to sleep, which is much better than barfing and feeling horrible all morning long.

You aren't supposed to take a multi on an empty stomach.....When I lived in Cedar Cove and worked at Webster, if I would forget to eat when I took my multi, you could bet I was throwing up on Mattapany!

Liquid Multis are what I use now and I don't have that problem.

Way off topic but now that you mentioned Mattapany - anyone know what the deal is with those crosses near the college end? I can't remember what they say on them but it is two guys names...

Nope, I like to tell my doctor what's going on and then we can discuss options

Well,I don't tend to take a day off, make an appointment, and sit there for two hours, and then walk out with a bunch of scripts I don't need. Especially considering that it would appear to be a pretty common problem. :buddies:

Check out the Iron content. I had a problem taking vitamins too, Always had the nausea and vomitting. Found out I actually could not metabolize Iron well and it was building to a toxic level in my system. Since switching to Iron free vitamins I have not had a problem.

Well, a doctor who recommends that a patient take a multivitamin for a serious disorder such as a blood clotting disorder might want to know if that patient is becoming dizzy & nauseous when taking it. Over the counter supplements can vary depending on the manufacturer and even person to person. A doctor is the only one truly qualified to tell someone how their reactions to a particular supplement works with their medical condition.

But your mileage may vary. :buddies:

Check with your doctor.

I had a similar problem until I paid attention to what was in the vitamin and realized that I was ingesting nickel -- with a nickel allergy.

It's a roadside memorial. Been there forever, finally disintegrated and broke into pieces and faded away, only to promptly be replaced with a newer replica.
