Tennessee? Wondering whats the best to go to - Knoxville? Memphis? Nashville? Chattanooga? Pigeon Forge? Gatlinburg? Would like to do the usual stuff u hear about - I wouldn't mind going to Dollywood (wherever that is) ? Wouldn't mind going to the Grand Old Opry (not that we're really into country music that much) and some of the aquariums down there.. We've never been to TN so any help would be appreciated. TIA. :howdy:

We went to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood. Also drove through Gatlinburg. Both were very nice. Would like to go again sometime when we have more than a day to spend.

You could also go to Maggie Valley in NC, just thru the mountains. Both are great:yahoo:.

Yes, I've been to just about all of those. I like caves and parks, so I really enjoyed Chattanooga, especially Ruby Falls, you have to go see that. Tennessee is a lot of fun! Also, check out The Lost Sea in Sweetwater, Tennessee. The world's largest underground lake. Very cool.

We enjoyed Dollywood too. That was a good time.

Dollywood was fun and I'm not a person that usually likes parks. I think you'll have a good time at any of the places you mentioned.

I've been to TN every summer of my life. We go to Stout's mountain... not sure what the new name of it is, but its where my grandfather, his family, his father, his family, and one more generation up were born and raised. Little tiny log cabin on the side of the mountain. No roads in or out. Absolutely awesome.

Not exactly what your looking for though...

Nashville is great and you can see all the sights on Music Cow and hit up Dollywood all in one trip. My mom lived there for a few years in the late 80's. I have been through Memphis and went and toured Graceland, other than that and a military base that I have heard of there I have no other knowledge of sightseeing things to do. Never been to Knoxville either.

I lived in Memphis TN (or as the locals call it "Memfs) for 4 years. Not a bad city but not the pearl of the Mid-South either.

Beale street was rebuilt and fixed up. They built the new Pyramid on Mud Island. The Mud Island River Museum is kinda nice. They built up Mud Island quite a bit. When I was there it was just a place for outdoors concerts and the museum. Never went to Graceland. Good BBQ. Overton Square was nice but went to shiat. Aquarium and Zoo. You can always go downtown and watch the ducks waddle into the Peabody Hotel. The river side section is nice. Old cotton warfs fixed up with high end resturants and shops.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon forge are nice but tourist traps to the max. Nashville rocks.

All in all it is a nice place to visit.

Oh BTW, if you are half drunk wandering around down town and some black guy challenges you to a card game called "find the red queen" for $10 DON'T play even though you won the first couple times he lets you play for free. :nono:

OH! And if you are in a skuzzy funk club called the Antenna Club pretty drunk and the bouncer with a gold tooth says you have to leave......just leave and don't argue.

Oh and one more thing if it is late at night and your drunk and have to pee and your buddy pulls over behind a dumpster at a Kentucky Fried Chicken on Polar Avenue and a cop pulls up and asks what you are doing do NOT yell "What the hell does it look like I am doing, I am making a damn sandwich."

Oh, my mom took me to Lynchburg, TN to tour the Jack Daniels Distillery when I was 16.
The place was cool but the smell of the whiskey in those barrels was :barf: The town is in a dry county which is quite funny considering what is made there. I also remember the town only having something like 351 residents. Of course this was 22 years ago so they may have 500 residents now.

Found this little copied and pasted blurb from 1986.

JD HAS A MYSTIQUE, SOME OF WHICH ISACCIDENTAL, SUCH AS CELEBRITY ASSOCIATION*But JD helps the mystique*is advertised to be:Its distillery- Nestled in the foothills of theCumberland Mountains at Lynchburg, TN(pop* 361).- In a dry county (therefore "illicit").

It now says the population is over 5k and over 30% of the town's population are children under the age of 18 and most of the adult folks work at the distillery. Wow, time flies. I was only off by ten people.

The Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area are great. Lots of family friendly activities. Dollywood is cool as well as the water park. You gotta go to the Dixie Stampede too.

If you need a condo to stay in let me know. I need to rent away some of my timeshare weeks this year. Cheaper than a hotel by far and you get a kitchen.
