Went to Gatlinburg 4 yrs ago and loved it. Best vacation we've taken so far! We're planning on going back this July. Dollywood was fun as well as Ripley's museum and aquarium, Star Cars, wax museum. This site lists a bunch of stuff to do Gatlinburg Attractions Association of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Fun in the Smoky Mountains! and this http://www.gatlinburg-attractions.com/2008_ATTRACTIONS_GUIDE_72DPI.pdf

Gatlinburg in the winter is so pretty. All of the little shops to go to and Ripley's was a blast.

Never been there in the winter. Maybe one year we'll do that. I bet it's very pretty. We are planning on moving to Gatlinburg/Sevierville when we retire. Won't be for another 20yrs or so though. :frown:

I went there when I was in college to go skiing. It was fun but I still don't know how to ski. I was much happier just sitting in the lodge drinking hot chocolate :lmao:

In My Opinion
I've been to TN every summer of my life. We go to Stout's mountain... not sure what the new name of it is, but its where my grandfather, his family, his father, his family, and one more generation up were born and raised. Little tiny log cabin on the side of the mountain. No roads in or out. Absolutely awesome.

Not exactly what your looking for though...
thats exactly what I would be looking for.

no roads mean no people. could get drunk then run around nekkid and scare the wildlife.

My girlfriend and I are heading down for Valentines weekend. Its really cheap for the weekend and there are a ton of things we looked up online to do. We already have plans for a helicopter tour, the Dixie Stampede, Ripleys aquarium and a few other things. Looks like a fun weekend. We are driving i love road trips so it will be fun.

About how long does it take to drive to Nashville, would very much like to make that trip one day and go to the Grand Ole Opry and find my girlfriend her first name is Martina.:hot::blushing:

Yeah, okay.
You could also go to Maggie Valley in NC, just thru the mountains. Both are great:yahoo:.

Is there stuff for kids to do in Maggie Valley? We are looking for somewhere to go for summer vacation. I want to go to the beach, but hubby isn't much on the beach. He does like the mountains.

Its 9 hours to Gatlinburg, google maps says Nashville is 11 hours 37 min from Hollywood. I dont mind long drives, drove from Hollywood to Orlando the entire way minus about a half hour. Left at 1 AM on a Saturday and arrived in Orlando at about 4:30pm, then it was another half hour to the house we rented.

Just got back about 2 hours ago, the weekend was awsome. We arrived around 4pm on friday, traffic was hell figured it was just everyone arriving. The rest of the weekend traffic wasnt bad, base traffic is far worst. The town reminded of a beach town, with all the little shops, rides etc. There was far more to do though, better than OC by far, and i would put it on level with Orlando with the exception of Disney. We did the Dixie Stampede, best dinner show i have ever been too. We also did a helicopter tour, it was well worth the money the view was amazing. They have alot of Ripleys stuff too, the Aquarium was pretty cool.

If you decide to go try to plan out what you can there is alot to do, we where about 10 miles from Sevierville, and 15 from Gatlinburg. ITs a great place to go, the food was great, alot better than most of the stuff around here. Pretty sad when the golden corral down there is better than most places up here.

It is about 8 hours from Hollywood, to Pigeon Forge so its not terribly bad.

Wow, I just got back around 8 last night and yes the Golden Corral down there was awesome. We stayed in Knoxville with a friend and drove down to Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. Very nice place and extremely family oriented. It's Ocean City without the ocean, only better!! Make sure you stop and get the coupon books, definitely a savings! Very nice place, I will definitely go back. I've been to Cherokee, NC and Maggie Valley and while I like that place, there is tons more to do in TN!
