I can't speak to the Vaccination issue because I chose to have them done for my daughter, but I take her to Dr. Sheth and he has been extremely supportive of breastfeeding.

I do know that a lot of pediatricians are now doing optional delayed vaccinations, but disregarding them altogether is frowned upon in the medical community.

Which is more likely, get the disease or die from the vaccine?

I believe the side effects are much less likely. The diseases we vaccinate for are not "gone" from the world. They are still out there, just not as much as in the past because of vaccines.

I tried a quick Google on the issue, but many of the articles are from places/groups who are obviously biased, and so I do not know how much the information can really be trusted.

This article from the Telegraph (in Britain) seems reliable (they aren't a tabloid, right?):
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/main.jhtml?xml=/health/2006/02/13/nmmr12.xml

The AMA says that there have been outbreaks of measles, etc. in the recent past that occured in children who had not been vaccinated. Seems alot of people choose not to vaccinate due to religious beliefs.

Why are these two choices related? And do I detect disapproval of homeschooling?

I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice that most parents that do things that are not considered the 'norm' also home-school their children. I'm not saying that all people who home-school do things like skipping vaccines, and I'm not saying that all people who skip vaccines (and do other things not considered the 'norm') home-school.

And no, I don't disapprove of home-schooling. I wouldn't home-school my kids, but I wouldn't look down on those who home-school their children.

That made me sick.

Me too. That lady is a weirdo. Could you imagine how those girls will have a normal life? At that age they should be having friends over and having slumber parties. Thank goodness my son likes regular 2% milk from the store. That has to end way before they get that old. I couldn't imagine even considering it! Especially after they get teeth. Ouch.....

i dont know if ANY doc's would be necessarily OK with a child not getting vaccines...but i know that Dr. Lafeer in the bean buliding is great. he's never made me feel stupid for asking a lot of questions like some doc's do, and if you think something's wrong w/ the child he doesn't blow you off like you're crazy. he's listened to every concern i have about my children and always checked everything out.

well a lot are okay, or at least not pissy about it if you dont. youre paying them to do a service for you, afterall.. it shouldnt be up to them which services you choose for them to perform. some of us re against them on a religious basis, as well...

thanks for the info! :)

If you aren't going to get the vaccinations, why even bother w/ a pediatrician?
to have a document you arent neglecting your child?
to see if theyre growing well?
so the child isnt freaked out/scared if you ever do go if theryes something wrong?

lots of reasons.

My son went to Dr. Lafeer. Went there 4 times in a month. Each time I waited for over an hour to see him. Once 2 hours. Keep in mind that I had a scheduled appointment. Ridiculous.

Mindy, how long do you plan to breastfeed?
