Someone wrote to us and provided this explanation:

"The evacuation of the Costco in Brandywine was due to an refrigerator (freon) leak. Units from Brandywine, Waldorf, Westlake, Accokeek, Baden, Upper Marlboro, Allentown Road, Beltsville, Landover Hills, and Waldorf EMS responded around 3:30pm this evening. Units found a minor leak, and the store was evacuated prior to FD arrival."

It is not unlike my mom to call me when something happens. I remember when I was living in SC there was in accident in front of her house (here in SOMD) and the at fault driver took off running. So what does she do? She called me! I told her to hang up and call 911 then call me back.
She has never been one that handles stressful situations well. :ohwell:

I bet she was calling you for information. At first it was scary some people said there was a gunman in the store. I called my sister in NY to have her check local news websites for me.

I heard it was a mess up there. My neighbor was at the Target next door and said she counted 17 fire trucks and at leat 10 cop cars. Seems kind of strange for a freon leak? I don't know...hmmmm????

If it was just a freon leak it was a major OVERreation. Over 20 fire trucks and at least that many cop cars too. And they were there for almost the 2 hours we walked the parking lot.

My mom told me a manager told her it was a carbon monoxide alarm that went off. They had to go through the store with those detector things and realized it was just the alarm malfunctioning.
Not sure if this is true or not but I could see that type of reaction for that.

I guess you would have to have been there. Wandering the parking lot with 3 hungry kids(food was in food court) I couldn't call husband..he is deployed in Iraq until next year and family is all in NY.

The freon they use in commercial applications can kill your azz.
