Apartments in Lexington Park

Awesome! We absolutely love the Wildewood Community. I'm not in the apartments, but I've never heard anything bad about them. I helped some friends move out of the Wildewood apartments last year after they bought a house. Their unit was very nice.

We hear people often speak negatively of the area, mostly long time locals. Some of it I understand as they have seen their once very rural area grow quickly in recent years. Sometimes change is difficult to digest I suppose. For us, we came from a huge city (Dallas/Fort Worth Metromess) and the "small town" feeling here is exactly what we have been wanting for years. It's interesting to hear some people's view on Lexington Park as the BAD area. Again, coming from a big city, LP is a pretty tame place.

We also often hear people say there is noting here to do. While this could be a conspiracy to turn people away and get others to move out, lol, we have found that if you just look around a little, there is virtually something to do or see every weekend of the year. That does not include the more populated surrounding areas like Annapolis, Baltimore, and DC. Something else we love about this area is the food! For the first time of any place I have ever lived, I can confidently say that the local food establishments here trump any of the chains.

Anyhow, congratulations on landing that step up in your career and I hope everything works out for you. Home is what you make of it and I'm proud to call southern Maryland home. Maybe you will too?

Welcome to S Md!

PS. There is a dish here that is unique to the area called "stuffed ham". OMG...

How long have you been here?

Thought I did so. A person working as a white collar professional does not generally enjoy the same pasttimes and entertainments as someone who works spreading grass seed for a living. And accepted behavior amongst these two types of people vary also, as a general rule.

If you are trying to get to say one group has greater value, or is intrinsically better than the other, good luck. Hell, dont have a degree myself, barely got an H.S. equivalency certificate six years after leaving high school.

But I know damn well that places where people like my oldest friend, who makes his living doing odd jobs and painting houses in season, feels at home, and one of my other friends, who is an author and aerospace engineer, feels at home, are two entirely different places.

Shouldn't that be "a H.S. equivalency certificate six years after leaving high school. "
But I am lower class and wouldn't know.

We moved from Fort Worth about two years ago and love it here. Although we currently live in Wildewood, we first lived at Abberly Crest for the first two months for the relocation and it was fine.

If you like water, you'll especially like it here. :buddies:

Grand Prairie here :buddies:

Being from Atlanta you will have no issues with the "traffic" here. Wildwood will be your best option.

I don't get that either

The traffic seems to move pretty fast here during what you would call a typical rush hour. (I however wouldn't want to deal with the bridge everyday). The most annoying thing to me is the one way in and out of any shopping center and having to pass your destination, sit at a light, and do a u turn to get to it.

When you are accustom to dirt roads progress skews your reality.

15 years ago 235 was a two lane with one stop light and there was only traffic when the lawn tractors got together to race.

I get that and was going to add a disclaimer of sorts to my post, but one would think that at least some people venture into areas where the traffic is much worse? Maybe not.

I do have to say though, that for me the drive to say Brandywine is painful, and it's obviously not the traffic. My sister is in sales and drives a lot for a living, and she even says the last hour coming here sucks. It's not the distance or time.

Nope not the distance or time, just Maryland sucking the life out of ya.

Thank you :) I hope its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

It's not all bad. There are some who will say "there is crime everywhere", which is true. There are just some areas where it is much more concentrated and those are the areas you want to stay away from. If crime is a concern, do your research: https://www.crimereports.com/

Traffic sucks heading to base from any direction so, the closer in you are, the better. But then I have a 2 hour commute into DC so an hour's drive is a breeze for me.

As for our taxes, well you might want to consider putting all of your money in offshore accounts before taking up residence here. I'm just sayin'.....

I am moving to lexington park in early Jan. and wanted to hear suggestions on where to live. I am looking for a small 1 bedroom/1 ba. and want to stay near the PAX navy base. When I asked for suggestions, a future co worker told me to stay away from Great Mills Rd.... but anyone have suggestions for safe living near the base for a single female?

and whats so bad about great mills rd?

A friend has a 2 bd/ 1 1/2 bath in Wildewood - older brick condo - going for rent in early Jan (if not sooner - waiting to get painting finished). On mid level - no stairs, faces the back so no one can look in. And is an interior (some one above, below and on all but one side -which helps with heating and cooling).

Most of the apartments/condos seem to have no elevators - so prepare to hoof it with moving and groceries.

I see, I am from Atlanta and we have quite a mix of people here. I'm not worried about skin color, I am worried about violent crimes/theft. I hate when people automatically assume blk ppl = crime.

Actually, there is a pretty good mix in the Great Mills area. However, that mix is low income for the most part, and if there is crime in the area, that's usually where it occurs.

I've been here since '94, and the area's I would consider if I were new to the area are back by gate 3. Quick access to the base. Spy Glass apartments. Small apartments, but I think you'll find what you're looking for.

This may well be my first post and I'm resurrecting a semi-dead thread but I was curious if a consensus was ever reached on the best place for someone new to the area? I'm coming in February from China Lake and have been looking hard at Elan and Abberly Crest. I'm leaning towards AC just because of the proximity to the base.
