Honest question...
What opportunities in St. Mary's County are available and obtainable for white children that are not available for minorities?
I have two who are adults now and both are products of the St. Mary's county public school system. I am witness to children of all race and religion who benefitted from the same free education opportunities as mine, including the tech center, STEM classes, SKILLSUSA competitions, etc. The requirements are the same for everyone: regular school attendance and maintain passable average. Families that could not afford the associated fees benefitted from those fees being paid for them.
In addition to those observations, I have a 30 year career working locally and the management chain always had people of minority races in management positions. In fact, I often worked for people of a minority race that were born and raised here. This is true over the 30+ years of my career. So again, it is a fact the opportunities in the county are available for everyone. But it does require individuals to take responsibility and initiative to put in the effort to leverage these opportunities. Is this proposed education reform and curriculum additions designed to empower all children to show up for school, roll up their sleeves and work hard? That is what all children of all races and religions need.
