My mom is getting a new MAC for xmas and wanted accesories for it. I got her the MAC for dummies book, but now i see the copywrite is 2006 and there are other books such as OS Leopard for Dummies. Which how to book should i get her?

They call me ... Sarcasmo
Get both and make all your bases are covered. Take her to the Genius Bar at the Annapolis Mac store and have get a tutorial from them to get her started.

:yeahthat: The 2006 book will be a great guide, it just won't cover all the details of the latest Leopard release.

None, Apple has tutorials right on their website...

The best thing you could buy her is a Logitech or other good brand mouse, so she doesn't have to deal with learning Apple's mouse...

Apple's mouse is horrible if you're a "right clicker." You can set it to allow you to right click, but unless you press it in the exactly right spot it doesn't work. Once I dumped their mouse, then 99% of the battle of learning the MAC was won...

The only other real aggravation was closing windows on the top left corner instead of right corner...

If she hasn't read the owners manual for her car, odds are she won't read one for a computer.

I'll tell you what...

When my family got confronted with "read this damn website and learn how to use it, or stay off the Internet," they were some reading mofo's...

The same free crap on Apple's website is being sold in those books. They're a waste of money...

I'd agree with you if the user were computer literate and savy. But if this is a new user, or new to mac, or new to the Internet, trying to use the same device you need information on may be more frustrating than they can deal with. In that case, which appears to be the case here, having a reference not on the computer works better until such time they get savy.
