My children have been asking me about beavers and were they live and what do they look like. Now I have heard from several people that St. mary's county has places where you can see beaver damns and maybe some beavers when it warms up. If anyone knows of anywhere can you help me out

Gilbert Run park off of Rt 6 North that has a family of beavers in the pond.

Another location I've seen an active beaver dam is just off of Bushwood Warf Road, or Maddox road (I think). Can't remember which without actually driving over and looking sorry

You'll have to take a bit of a walk at Gilbert Run but the other could be seen from the road at one time. It's been a while since I've seen them though. DNR goes in and destroys the dam every so often because it sometimes floods the road. Who knows, they MIGHT have trapped the beavers and relocated them by now.

St. Mary's lake has some big, fat, scary ones.

Yes they do! We have two large Lake/Ponds here in the farm. Every single year the beavers take over and rule the roost in the east pond. Not sure why they love it there. The kids stay far away and do all of their fishing and swimming in the beaver free waters.
