If evolution is supposed improve the next generation,
It doesn't "improve" a generation. It favors survival and reproduction. (See "Idiocracy"). If an emerging trait favors the survival of one species or genetic line, that one will persist.
It may well be that future humans will be smaller, because they'll survive better that way. Maybe they'll be dumber but mature faster. Who knows?
But there's no upward arrow of evolution.
