Are you driving slower

in Leonardtown now?

When they repaved Route 5 from Burchmart to Moakley street this week, they also painted the new lines so that all 4 lanes are 1 foot narrower. This is a civil engineering tactic used to slow speeds by creating the illusion that the road isn't as wide as it really is.

I hope it works. I also hope they continue restriping the lanes all the way to Leonardtown Center. Way too many rear-enders on that stretch of road due to drivers exceeding the 40mph speed limit while not paying attention.

Putting a cop there 1 day a week who actually writes tickets would work too.

When I drove Boy to school the turn from Rt5 left onto the street to the fire house was trecherous. People came up through there 60 so they could get to the traffic light faster. I started going into LT and turning because I didn't want someone wedging their car under my truck.

What'd they do with the extra 4 feet?

Wide yellow lines in the middle of the road, and wide white lines on the outside lanes against the curbs...

I wish they'd look at the hole in the road as you make a right onto Old Rolling road coming out of Kmart. It's about 2 feet deep right next to the curb. I can just see some one dropping their bicycle tire in it.
