Asahi - No

I totally agree with you. I have not found one real Japanese restuarant here. It is pretty sad. All the good, authentic Japanese restuarants I have been to have been on the West Coast, where they actually serve authentic Japanese food. Asahi does serve tempura though, so they are trying.

The tempura is too greasy. It's not light and crispy like it's supposed to have. The last time I had a good Japanese food in a restaurant was in the Atlanta metro area.

What are you going to tell me next, Monterey isn't a real Mexican restaurant? Olive Garden isn't a real Italian restaurant?

They at least resemble actual Mexican and Italian cuisine. I've had home cooked Mexican food in Mexico and they eat chimichangas, refried beans, rice & beans. What Asahi serves for most part isn't remotely like Japanese food. Only place I know in Japan that people have lobster is at Red Lobster and only places that most people in Japan had steaks are places like the Outback and TGIF. There isn't even a Japanese word for lobster or steaks, they just use the English words.

That's exactly what it is. If you want Miso Soup, you ask for "Miso Soup". But what they say in their menu about soup coming with your meal doesn't specify Miso Soup.

:yeahthat:

What they serve automatically with the meal is not miso soup. However it is a Japanese soup. It's not like miso soup is the only Japanese soup that exists.

Your sarcasm detector needs recalibrating.

No more. I'll go to Monterey. It's not as though St. Mary's is lacking in good restaurants with good service.

I hated Monterey's on my first visit. Our waiter was a snob and only came to our table when we flagged down another one...

Good food, though...

This just in; POPEYE'S is NOT a real cajun restaurant!!!
It's not? :shocking: But...but...they have red beans and rice. And crawdads. Shoot, all they need is Bananas Foster on the menu and they could be Brennan's. :ohwell:

Well, I have to admit I went off the suject so I apologize.

I've been to Asahi 4 times, 3 times at one of the individual tables and once at the sushi bar. It was slow when I was at the bar but no problem besides that. The service was ok the other times but the tempura was mediocre at best.

Anyone been to Hot Noodle's or is it Pho, next to Monterrey? I was there once and the service was pretty bad. We went on early on a Friday night. I wasn't busy yet. The service was very slow. Took over 10 minutes for us to get our drinks after we ordered and we had to remind them. The servers seemed to be an average age of 17 when we went and they seemed more interested in chatting with each other behind the bar than serving the food. However I thought the food was pretty tasty. One of my Vietnamese co-workers on the other hand thought the food was pretty bad.
