And I mean that. And I ask of the forums god/s to let it be so.
Wasn't my decision - Elaine asked to be banned from Religion.

I don't understand people who are hostile to religion. Why do you care so vehemently what someone else believes, when it has absolutely nothing to do with you?

Surfer, if you don't have anything intelligent to contribute to the conversation, why not just stay out of it? Why do you feel the need to mock people who aren't hurting you?

I find your hostility almost as interesting as fundamentalism.

I have to disagree with this. Most Atheists, educated or not, might be tolerant of believers but not appreciative.

You must be looking at the people over at positive atheism.

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion, but as one of "them" (and consequently, an associate thereof) I've found that if you can get past the teenage Emo crowd who define themselves by their attire of duct tape and black napkins and their belief that Christians=Morons, Atheists as a general crowd are some of the most well read and diversely studied scholars of world religions and related derivatives (ie, art). I personally have a solid appreciation for Judeo-Christian history and the way it has evolved and shaped much of the known world since it's inception; as well as a great deal of respect for the aesthetic and philosophic contributions for which faith of all varieties are responsible.

I am not overly religious in anyway. To me ones belief in religion is something I personally don't feel the need to be critical of Christian, Hindu, Harri Krishna or Mormon (I admit a bias against fundamentalist Muslims for obvious reasons but not Muslims as a whole). To me personally, poking someones religious beliefs is out of bounds. What does it hurt that they follow the Bible?

I have to also admit that the "religious bashers" with their passive aggressive ways kind of chap my ass. Why feel the need to continuously poke religious people? To prove in some way that they are idiots for believing in God ? Do you honestly feel that YOU are going to cause a devoutly religious person to go "You know you are right! You are so smart, thank you for showing me I am a fool for believing in God for all these years. Now show me to the whores and liquor :yahoo:." ?

I also find it insulting when the "religion bashers" try to put off their bashing as "discussion". "Oh I am not bashing, I only want to discuss religion and prove how stupid you are for believing". Do you believe that we just hopped off the turnip truck yesterday and can't see your agenda?

Leave the people be. What does it hurt? Let them believe what they want.

I appreciate your post, and I have been noticing this lately:

"Atheists as a general crowd are some of the most well read and diversely studied scholars of world religions and related derivatives (ie, art)."

I don't understand this. Why does one need admin to ban them from anything? If you're not interested in a forum, just don't click on the threads.

I must seek E and ask her.

Carry on. :howdy:

Good work Pete.

Asperger's Poster Child
Whether it's atheism or Christianity or any other religious group, there is always a hardcore group of evangelists who want everyone to believe as they do. I suspect that for most evangelical atheists, they would have been Falwell/Dobson acolytes if their lives had taken different turns. I've also met evangelical Wiccans and evangelical vegans. Just more people who think that they, and not we, have all the answers to life's mysteries.

:yay:

I've aired my disagreements with Christian doctrine here many times, as well as my disagreement with evangelism in general. But those are my opinions, and unlike an evangelist, I'm not out to change anyone else's religious beliefs. When I write about what I don't like about Christian doctrine or any other religious doctrine, my goal is to not insult Christians or any other believers, and I hope I haven't inadvertently insulted anyone.

In My Opinion
I am a Christian, meaning that I do believe Christ died on the cross for our sins, I do believe he was the son of God.

I also believe in others rights not to believe. Its not my place to judge their faith, or to suggest a life burning in Hell is in store for them.

the atheists I know are good people, they go out of their way to help others and basically live their life in a way that Jesus Christ himself would have taught them to. They just dont belive. Those that I know also do not refer to God as my sky daddy or try to put down my faith by making comments.

as far as the other religions go, with their different names for God, and Jesus, and maybe even more than one God, I say this.

Mans knowlege of God is based on much interpretation of what was written by man thousands of years ago.
I hold open the possibility that they might due to the interpretation in their language look at Jesus and/or even the disciples as gods. I dont know.
I do know that my faith says I need to believe in Christ to optain my final goal, but I do not discount that they can make it into Heaven by following their faith.
We are all descendants of Adam and Eve, but as the tribes split and languages changed, the basic interpretation could well have changed with it.

Oh, and on a side note.
Y'all heatens be going to hell.:killingme
