I used Southern Maryland Transmission before (Fred did great work) but the owner retired and the shop closed (actually changed) sooooooo, I want to swap out my tansmission valve body (I have a custom rebuilt one) which should not require dropping the transmission. Any recommendations on good transmission shops or a certified mechanic looking for side work in St Mary's or Calvert?

Funny, you've helped me other times in the past and we first spoke at Four T garage when we were doing the initial Turbo work. You're always nice, friendly, and professional. God Bless... :buddies:

Turbo maxima? Small world... I ran into you at Wawa couple months ago and we talked about Nissan/Infinity performance mods.

I would HIGHLY suggest you avoid AAMCO for any high performance trans work.

What make/model is the transmission you want to swap VB's on?

Give ATM Transmission in Hollywood a try. Talk to Tom. If you already have the tranny out they can put it on their transmission dyno to run it through the gears to make sure everything is cool before you put it back in. If it is still in the car they can do that too. They can also build you a custom converter onsight that will maximize your combination to get all the power to the wheels.

Good luck

It's a 2004 Nissan Maxima with an RE5F22A Transmission. The current transmission was recently rebuilt and modified for racing. It has a new valve body installed so no current issues. But for racing I needed a modified valve body that could hold more pressure and port more fluid so I sent my spare valve body to Level 10 transmission for the upgrade:

Level 10 Nissan Bulletproof Valvebody RE5R05A,RL4F03A,RE4F04A,RE4R01A,RE4F04B,RE4R03A,RE5F22A

Well I just got it back rebuilt from Level 10 and looking for a shop or someone who can swap it out for me. I also have access to the NAS Pax auto hobby shop that has lifts and tools.

Thanks for the info,
Tranny already rebuilt and in the car. I also have a modified Torque Converter (300 extra stalls) that a racing shop in Florida did for me.
Just need the valve bodies swapped. :buddies:

Do they have a website or an address I can Google...
Not that I can find.

They've been in business for years. Had a shop in Montgomery Co., then moved down here and got tired of the drive, so opened the shop in Mechanicsville.

Shop is on the corner of Hills Club Rd. and Rt. 5. Right by the Mechanicsville VFD.

Thanks, I'll give them a call tomorrow. I looked it up on Google Earth and they're about 5 blocks north of the 5/235 split on the Rt 5 South Bound side. I even saw what the place looked like with the street view function. Thanks again. :buddies:

AAMCO has looser tolerances for parts than necessary for a performance application. Not an intentional negligence thing, just a function of their business (repair stock replacement transmissions) I've also seen them use double gaskets to seal warped surfaces and shim pressure regulators to eliminate clutch pack slip instead of replacing the clutch pack. These are fine for stock transmissions, but not acceptable for a performance or heavy duty use trans.

I'm not familliar with nissan transmissions. Replacing a valvebody on a GM trans is a piece of cake though. if they're even remotely alike, I'd suggest finding some info online or grabbing a chiltons maual, checking out the scope of the job, and maybe give it a shot yourself!

Definitely stay away from AAMCO!! I am speaking from experience!!

The Gear Box in Mechanicsville. They are great. Good people!

Thanks, I'm not a fan of AAMCO, I drive by it daily however that's why I started this thread because they were off my list from the beginning. Too much of a Jiffy Lube type mentality for me. I've had sub par experience with them in the past as well in other states. IMO a privately owned tranny shop has everything to lose by not doing quality work where as a chain store has somewhat less initiative since they have less to lose by pumping out volume work and can fire people easily if they screw something up.

Anyway I've already done the research and worked with Southern Maryland Transmission during me rebuild and I'm absolutely certain based on the access it can be swapped out without dropping the tranny. I'm also a member of several Nissan Organizations with access to a lot of technicians and technical documentation. The only thing I was lacking was someone to trust who can do a quality swap. Thanks again for the help, and thank you ALL for inputs... :howdy:
