Where's a cutting Ted Cruz reply when you need one.
I had a similar situation, couple years of college with loans, didn't finish, no degree. Put off paying the loan for other things, until I got a couple of calls from the bank. At that point, I took it as a personal failure, an embarrassment. I paid off the loan without missing any payments and vowed to never allow myself to go into unrealistic debt ever again. That's worked very well for me.I had student loan debt after my failed attempt to get a degree in the late 70's. I got a job and used that to pay it off. I was still living with my parents, paid rent and helped with grocery money, but I paid it all off in 5 years, a little over 2 years after I got married. Did not incur other debts, like credit cards or an auto loan. Had no mortgage as we did live in base housing at the time. Even managed to build up some savings.
Hate to say it, but I sure wouldn't mind a little loan forgiveness. Wife had it before we even met twenty plus years ago - and she is still paying it off. At this rate, she'll still be paying it when she RETIRES.
But it really points to something entirely different. Is there any good reason why college education should cost the same as a HOUSE? What is so freaking costly about teaching stuff for a few years? The buildings? Salaries? It sure ain't the hours. Three hours a week per class. What a racket.
No, there's no reason college should cost so much except that there's no reason to LOWER costs.
"Today, over 43 million people in the U.S. are crushed under more than $1.7 trillion in student loan debt."
She seems to forget that this is debt that the debtors willingly incurred. So maybe they should be declared a danger to themselves and held for psychiatric evaluation if they are inflicting violence upon themselves.
It’s a snowball effect. One reason that colleges are so expensive is the BS they are teaching.
Black studies, Social studies, Homo studies, Women studies men studies. If you can think of something some ass whole is getting paid for teaching it and studying it. Colleges need to stop teaching and studying Bull sh*t
Book smart but as dumb as mud.If I may ...
When a "loan" or debt, such as student loans, cannot be discharged in bankruptcy, by the force of law, then these type of loans become, and are, predatory. Just like going to a loan shark, or seeing Guido at the pastrami shop for a loan.
I'm willing to incur a crushing loan debt so I can buy the yacht I cannot otherwise afford, as long as that cun...er..nice lady Pressley can assure me that the debt will be forgiven without payment. :smokingwin:
