Baby Pool at Cove Point is NOT daycare

Last week I took my kids to the Cove Point Pool. specifically the babypool area. My daughter was playing with a little boy, who was 3. An hour later I'm looking around and wondering who his mother is...afterall my daughter really enjoyed playing with this little boy. 1.5 hours later his Mom came out of the big pools sopping wet, scooped him up out of the pool like a rag doll, threw him a towel and they left. Call me judgemental but in my opinion - that is a bad mother. Who the heck leaves a 3 year old in the baby pool alone, unattended?!?! Last I knew kids had to be 15 to be unattended anywhere in that pool complex.

Cove Point Park Pool

I don't let my kids go to the Cove Point pool (they are teens). To much nonsense going on in and around that complex. I would rather they go to Chesapeake Beach water park.

It's close to home, we have a family pass - we don't go in the big pool area - too much commotion going on for my toddlers.

I asked if the two Calvert Counties pools were going to be honored on the same pool pass and was told, "not at this time, maybe when the indoor pool is completed." I would have liked the variety - but don't want to pay for 2 admissions.

We went 2 weekends ago and my husband had to scooop up a child from the big pool who had been hit by another child coming down the slide.

That crab slide should NOT be so close to the other slides. Too much action going on in spot of the pool. I'm surprised no one has drowned.

While we were in the baby pool section I noticed quite a few children who were not watched. I saw one child inhale a mouthful of water and a lady scoop up the frantic child holding her up screaming ... "who does this child belong to??" It took too long for the mother to come forward.

'Tis a damn shame that some people can't be good parents.

Ageed 100% My husband has also saved kids from the random possible drownings from kids sliding on to one another. They have what appears to be a lot of lifeguards - but they don't really pay too much attention and miss a lot of what I think they should help with. I've seen the babypool lifeguard fall asleep and another guard come wake him up. Other times we get nice lifeguards who play with the kids if the pool isn't busy. Just depends I guess. I don't think some parents realize how important it is for them to stay on top of their. I hate to say it, but it seems as though parents who use daycare pay attention less - is it because they are used to someone else caring for their kids? ( I am not critisizing - just wondering).

Again not criticizing....just wondering....would you rather I say, I wonder if mom is drunk and playing with her boy toy in a big pool?

I understand your just wondering and it's a honest questions. There's not one answer to it really, everyone is different and every parent is different. I have a 5 and 1½ year old and we go to the pool all the time both at home and at the health club. I watch them like a HAWK, seriously, my 5 y.o. is pretty good and understand her swimming limits fine, the baby is a total kamikaze so i stay right on top of her always. They are both in daycare full time (unless the 5 y.o. is in school) while my wife and I work.

Completely unrelated issues. Most people put their kids in daycare because they have to work. Many, many of those parents use their time off work to be with their kids and they are extremely attentive...there are of course, exceptions.

It could just as easily be said that the SAH parents who spend all their time with their kids take advantage of the abundance of adults in a public place to take a break from their kids. For some that may be true, for others, it isn't.

I was about to say something similar. Most parents I know who have their kids in daycare want to spend every waking second with them when they are all home.

You should have called the police.

I must have been lucky when I went on Friday. I had never been before and it wasn't packed like I thought it would be. My daughter is 10 and it was not difficult to watch every move she made. I swam with her a lot, but when I wasn't in the pools, I had my chair in a spot where I could see the entire area. The kids that were there that day seemed well behaved. Just as we were leaving around 5, I noticed a bunch of teenagers coming in, so I think we left at a good time.
