OMG say it ain't so ! A bacon shortage?

"MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A virus never before seen in the U.S. has killed millions of baby pigs in less than a year, and with little known about how it spreads or how to stop it, it's threatening pork production and pushing up prices by 10 percent or more."

Didn't we have a bacon 'shortage' last year because of problems overseas? I never saw prices go up and the shelves were always full.

Bacon prices have been high for years now I guess? Long gone are the days you could buy a pound of bacon for $2.99. A family friend, Tommy, who died in 1999, used to bring bacon back from a small place he visited during his PA trips. That was the best bacon I've ever had. I'd order 10 to 20 lbs at a time, and then package it in smaller amounts to freeze. Mmmmm bacon . Sure do miss Tommy (no not just for the bacon) - he was such a nice guy and his accidental death was so tragic.

The slim pickings of porky products “is now unavoidable,” according to the NPA, because the cost of animal feed continues to rise worldwide."

Ok, now i am really getting bummed. So far i have learned on the forums today, that there is a bacon shortage causing the prices to rise, there is a lime shortage causing the prices to rise, and the price of beef is at an all time. This sucketh.
