Bacon

I've been microwaving it since we jumped in the motorhome and hit the road, and have perfected my technique to get 5 perfect thick slices. Today the bacon was an afterthought (I know, right?) and I had the skillet going, so I thought I'd fry up a couple slices to have with my tomato omelet and tortilla.

Yack.

Greasy unevenly cooked crap.

I mean, I ate it anyway because it's still bacon, but now I know better and will microwave from now on.

I have tried a couple of the trays, a nordicware one and a hanging one.

They work well enough if you get the timing down, but always such a pain to clean.

When you microwave it, do you use a special container or cookware in the microwave?

I use a paper plate with a double thickness of paper towel over it, lay the bacon out on the plate, then a layer of paper towel over the top. 5 thick slices goes for 5 minutes, then let it rest in the microwave for 5 minutes.

Not eco-friendly, so don't tell the greenies.

Usually I just bake it on a cookie sheet in the oven; 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Perfectly flat every time and barely any shrinkage. In fact, I cut the slices in half before I cook them and they fit a normal slice of bread exactly. Think BLTs with no wasted bacon.
Screw the eco-friendly greenies ... its bacon.

I cook in the pan, but mostly because I want to fry my toast and eggs in the grease.

BTW these (or this style, maybe not this exact brand) cook perfect eggs for a bacon egg sandwich. I have one I have used for 10+ years and it's still perfectly non-stick and makes perfect eggs in 1 minute.

This is exactly what I do too, except I use Aldi's pre-cooked bacon and it's pretty thin, so 50 seconds for 5-6 slices is nice and crispy.

I used to use pre-cooked bacon but a year or so ago HEB had a terrific sale on thick cut regular bacon that I couldn't pass up, and it was so good I haven't gone back to pre-cooked. Also sometimes in the backwaters we'd find ourselves in they didn't have pre-cooked bacon, just the pointless raw bacon in the package that they say is "microwave ready" but cooks unevenly and is a PITA.

I have a small broiler rack and drip pan and broil it in the toaster oven. 20 minutes is usually good.

I prefer real bacon, but just don't like dealing with the mess of cooking it anymore. With the pre-cooked, I can keep 6 boxes in the cupboard (the equivalent of 6 pounds) so I'm never without, it never goes bad, just use as much as I need for a sandwich or something, the open package lasts for 2 weeks in the fridge. Great to take camping too, doesn't need to be refrigerated until opened, and whoever heard of putting away an open bacon package while camping?

I do that if I need to cook a whole package or more. Like when my mother sprung it on me that I was feeding 10 of us brekkie at my house. She also thought that half a pack of bacon was enough. Fortunately, I had to packs in the freezer. NO ONE will eat just one piece of bacon! Geesh...

Think BLTs with no wasted bacon.

"Wasted bacon"? Those are words, I see them, but they make no sense put together.........

Me, I use the thick cut stuff in the Griddler Elite countertop grill with the griddle pans, drains them as they cook so it's silly crisp.

Been using air fryer lately. My bacon grease jar was getting low.

I do it that way too, but again cleaning is a PITA. Grease on the side of the air-fryer is not my favorite thing. My old cast iron (or newer carbon steel pan) cleans in about 10 seconds.

I get the precooked at Sysco that’s about the equivalent of 10 lbs that stays in the freezer. 30 seconds in the microwave for 6-8 slices is perfect for BLT’s
