I do it that way too, but again cleaning is a PITA. Grease on the side of the air-fryer is not my favorite thing. My old cast iron (or newer carbon steel pan) cleans in about 10 seconds.
So what do you think of the carbon steel? I’ve seen the advertisements and it looks like it works as well as cast iron, but it was $75.00.

I bought a set from Misen. Think I got 10 and 12 inch for about $70 after coupon.

Easier to season than cast iron (doesn't require it to be as thick), and much lighter, otherwise it's similar to a polished cast iron. My current favorite pans.
