Bad accident in Calvert

It was weird because you could hear the person who called it in.

The same thing happened about this time last year, it was a drill but you could hear the person that "called it in" and she was screaming, etc. I started a thread then too because it sounded so bad.

Post is back up on baynet. The are getting ready to moch again. I drove by after dropping our daughter off at school. No accident, not even a moch accident was seen unless they do it in the school parking lot.

Company 3 just staged again, talking about they need more of a break between responders.

We used to have those at our high school too. Everyone knew it wasn't real so I doubt anyone thought about what it was suppose to teach us. :ohwell:

On the weekend when all members are available....Why?

If the training is also for the responders, they need to be prepared for accidents anytime. People don't behave better on the roads because there are a lack of responders or plan on having accidents on the weekends because there are an abundance.

Many area's have these drills around prom time at the high schools, tomorrow it maybe Calvert or Northerns turn to stage a mock drill.

Coming from a member of SVRSFD, it was mock crash. We take some vehicles and set them up in the area by the tennis courts and the students sit on bleachers across the driveway. The students play the characters. We always have a priority 4, couple critical, a couple who walk away, and a drunk driver. We bring Trooper 7 to transport one, the funeral home puts the "deceased" in the body bag, sheriff's department conducts field sobriety tests and arrest the drunk driver. We play a 911 tape over loud speakers so kids can hear the panic in the person's voice.

You should see the kid's reactions at these things. This is about as real as it can get, especially since their school mates act it out. It really is an effective deterrent.

It was a mock crash held in the parking lot at Patuxent High School for the students. The Calvert County Sherrif's Office was there, the funeral home was also there.

Students participate, they get bloodied, Wentworth's Body Shop donates cars that are wrecked, the kids get in them, a person does the call over the scanner which is the Training Channel, which is also on a speaker so the kids hear it. The fire trucks, ambulances come to the scene as if it's a real accident, cut the people out of the cars, EMTs take care of the patients then rush them out of the parking lot. Helicopters do not land but are called just to show the kids. At the end the funeral home take the "dead bodies" zipping them up in body bags and take them away. Then the firefighters clean it up and the tow trucks take the cars away.

This is done every year around this time of the year. This is to give you an idea. It's great for the kids to see.

There is one more mock traffic stop demonstration and crash program coming up - it will be on May 7th at 6:30 p.m. at the College of Southern Maryland in Prince Frederick. The other programs were conducted specifically for Huntingtown and Patuxent High School students. Calvert High had theirs before homecoming, Northern reaches their students in a different way. This next one at CSM can be attended by any parent and their teen. We've had requests in the past from parents that homeschool, as well as others that have highly functioning special needs teens that may benefit from seeing a program like this.

This is a drill, this is a drill. This is a Black and Decker 3/4" Variable speed, reversible drill. That is all.
