Its not exactly a "fun" idea..but i got these really neat "juice" boxes at big lots (great place to pick up snacks for lunches btw, cheap and lots of neat stuff) called h2organics kids... (ok I am not a kid, but I gotta have snacks at work or the morning sickness is ickyy :killingme) and they are organic flavored water in juice boxes..low sugar (but real) and no dye and have vitamin c. They are tasty and look pretty healthy ( I think juice is the devil for children, mine won't be getting much of it, it's all sugar:otter:) Anyway, heads up..healthy snacks at big lots :buddies:

edit: the no dye thing is a good thing...red dye has been shown to cause hyperactivity in children, and is an allergen linked with gastro upset. :coffee:

Thanks for the heads up. My son gets sick when he had fruit punch. I think it's the red dye. He just like water anyways.

Talk about taking the fun out of packing a lunch...

Okay, how about:

  • Organic soy milk sweetened with cruelty-free honey
  • Veggie burgers with quinoa and bulgur salad
  • Tofu dogs wrapped in pesticide-free cabbage leaves

Yum yum! Can't wait for lunch!

You just made me throw up my dinner :smack:

I can understand in preschool. They are tiny then, and having a friend who's child has SEVERE allergies, i know how much she worries. Even if a kid touches something, then her, she has a severe reaction. However, past 1st or 2nd grade the kids should be able to know what to avoid and to tell people that they can't touch stuff. And allergies that severe are so rare that making over an entire school is illogical.

The schools(and any other governmental organization) has to conform to the one mom(or dad) that goes into the school and whines about how their child is allergic to (fillinnameofitemhere)....they then have to bleach every inch of the school(including all the dirt, plants, grass, etc as it may contain the dust) so that their child can get their free and public education

What ever happened to those days of putting your kids out to play so that they may get dirty, infected, bit by bugs, and get the childhood illnesses that are needed to get along in life?

red dye has been shown to be linked to everything that is wrong with everyone over the course of the last 40 years....I have 5 kids and 4 of them are hyperactive....only 1 had red dye as a child....I guess the other 3 got it from the water

I like the idea of the "lunchables" but using your own ingredients instead because they're healthier. Crackers, pepperoni, salami, or low fat ham, cheese slices or cubes, etc. Fresh fruit or veggies cut up with a dip are all really fun. Pitas with fillings or tortilla rollups with their favorite fillings.

You can make "pocket" sandwiches by using a big glass or biscuit cutter* to cut the sandwich after you make it. You can put your favorite filling between 2 slices of bread. Meat, cheese, spreads, PBJ, etc. After you cut it out - press down the edges around the filling.

(*Pampered chef used to have one of these gadgets to do this)

And REAL 100% fruit juice boxes or bags. Juicy Juice makes them, Capri Sun makes them (be careful with CS - sometimes they're just sugar water) Or they can buy milk.

If the class doesn't have a fridge, make sure that if you put anything in the lunch that will spoil within a couple of hours time you freeze the juice box before you put it in the lunch....that way it is cold when the kid drinks it and it can help to keep the lunch cold longer

I dont know if its something you would be interested in but I LOVE Bento and Bento sets. I wish I could have had them when I was a kid. They have a lot of neat accessories to make lunches more interesting like egg molds to put a hard boiled egg into a fun shape. People use cupcake liners to seperate food and cookie cutter shapes for sandwiches.
Here is a link of some:

I think Bento is awesome and will make any kid feel really special, when they cant have the lunches other kids can have.
Best of luck!

My son loves my home made baked chicken strips. He will eat them cold also. I am going to try to make a home made plum sauce from real plums to go with them. I also figure if he is involved in making his lunch he would he eat it. Picked up some freezer ice pouched for his lunch bag. Walmart had them for .97 cents.

My son likes sushi but instead of using seafood i can use chicken. I can do bbq chicken, carrots and avocado wrapped in the rice. I am not positve how healthy it is but it is different and creative.

Kid, heck...I checked out your links and think I'll be trying this out on hubby and myself. If it works out, I'll invest in the bento boxes.

I also found this link in my research, I thought I'd share (little more realistic for me):
