Eagles are NOT protected by the state of Maryland. They come under the protection of the USF&W, and all eagles are governed by USF&W, not DNR! Maryland is obligated to abide by and work with USFW, which they do. And to work with them you need a permit ( Migratory Bird Laws) from them..I have such a permit. To house them, you need an additional special permit,( which I do not have because there are facilities near by with vets on staff to care for these birds) and sometimes DNR can grant permission after clearing it with USFW ( because "DC" is right next door) So, yes, I do what I am talking about.

How do you hunt deer...club them with a stick or look at them and scare them to death?
You SHOOT them, thus they have been SHOT with a projectile!
The majority of these "projectiles" are made of LEAD.
Understand?
They get shot with lead and get poisoning from lead shot.
How hard is that for you to understand?

Once the lead is in the body, we do not care in what form it entered, lead is lead and it kills.

Deer in MD get shot from bows, crossbows, muzzle loaders, shotguns, and in some counties rifles...most counties are slugs only I dont know if any allow buck shot here...a rifle, muzzle loader, or shotgun projectile isnt going to get stuck in the guts of a deer or in the meat of a deer...main reason the slug or projectile typically goes straight through the animal! I have yet to shoot a deer with a slug or muzzle loader or rifle that hasnt dropped on the spot or at minimum ran 30yds and dropped dead! The deer didnt die of lead poisoning! They died from massive hemorrhaging due to getting SHOT! Are there bad shots that people either injure a deer or dont recover a deer? Yep sure are but chances are eagles/osprey get lead poisoning from other sources than deer. Hunting waterfowl only allows steel shot! Where do eagles/osprey pick up lead? From people fishing! A fish eats the lead weight and ingests it. Then the osprey or eagle eats the fish! Also lead contaminates are from pollution dumped into the water! You are correct on lead killing osprey/bald eagles and yes that is disturbing to see. But you are off target saying its hunters fault...
