Back in the day, the norm was that being a homo was kind of an open secret. I don't mean the early days of hollyweird and so-called "lavender marriages," but nearly every outfit had at least one guy who everyone "knew" was light in the loafers. Combat boots. Whatever. But unless there was an incident, people just shrugged it off. And if some retread said something, shipmates were quick to shut that sh*t down. "P.O. 2nd class Pete may have been a poofer, but he was our poofer. He's not bothering anyone; leave him alone and shut the f*ck up." I saw a guy come within a hair's breath of getting his ass beat because he wouldn't shut the f*ck up.

What's really great about this? Is that everyone around didn't go and stomp the fella in the head for 5 minutes longer after he was knocked out. Instead they moved the fella off the street and were actually concerned for him trying to get him back up. That, is the difference between White people and others. Well, maybe, except for the guy swiping the fella's phone.
