Adopt me please !
I ended up at the vet office this AM when they opened with MaryKate (kitty) that couldn't pee. I had no idea how long she may have had this problem, so I felt it was possibly hurting her, and could kill her if it had been days since she had peed. She felt hot also, so I assumed she had a fever. Turns out a normal range of temperature goes up to 103 degrees for a cat, hmm, if I knew that in the past, I had forgotten. Her temperature at the vet office? 103.
So, I was thinking that for my benefit, and the benefit of others, how about we dedicate a thread to learning the basics about our critters health, and also basic first aid for felines and canines. Most of us know that we need to be careful as not all products/medications can be used on both cats and dogs.
I would like for everyone to help us post useful websites, recommend book titles, and share information they have about common illnesses with their pets. The information will help us all since we can use this thread to refer back to.
We have no idea how we are going to replace the $67 spent at the vet on MaryKate (office visit plus antibiotics for a suspected UTI). That money was designated for purchasing food for the critters. I am grateful to my vet for seeing MaryKate w/o an appt. It appears that I over-reacted to MaryKate's condition, so in the future I want to make better choices about the severity of the situation since my vet assistant suggested if I thought it was urgent I could have taken her to the ER vet. Usually when I call my vet about a sick critter they give me an appt. for that same day which is great, however, I thought that MaryKate must be suffering (no she wasn't crying or showing signs of pain), and that I NEEDED to get help right away.
