Maybe that was the plan all along.
- Trump wants Canada
- Canada says no
- Trump teases them
And I honestly think, that is the scope of it. Calling Trudeau Governor is just his way of reminding him, we have a trade imbalance, we don't need you, get your goddamned act together, stop the tariffs AND stop the border crossings - numbnuts.
When my middle girl was first arriving in the country - she gave me a wide berth. Reluctant to be near me, but not wildly so. Didn't like to be kissed goodnight. Took a few months, till she really warmed up to me ----
But she kept the whole "I don't like Daddy" thing going for a LONG time. Kiss everybody good night before going to bed - including the PETS - but just said "good night, Daddy" with a little smile. Wife said she would cry when I went off to work. It was a stunt, but she enjoyed doing it. Finally she just stopped. Daddy was more fun when she didn't do that.
*I* have a thing going with them all - and the dog. They try to get me to show it affection, hug it, even kiss it - and I tell them I am just fattening the dog for a barbecue. They know that when we were choosing dogs, I favored a black lab - and they all wanted this teeny little terrier mix. So I have maintained the facade of "I hate this dog" even though privately I do like it, and I'm the only one who buys and secretly gives her treats.
I think Trump is like that - likes to needle Canada - but it's all fun. If he ever drops that, it stops being fun.
