Beginner to electric guitar

I've been wanting to learn to play guitar for years and have finally decided to take the plunge. I know I definitely want to play electric but I am unsure what I should be looking at for a beginner setup. I'm looking for recommendations on a good guitar shop that could help me get started. Preferably I would like something in St. Marys. I know there are a couple of shops in the California/Lexington Park area but would like to hear about any experiences anyone has had with them or any others.

i wasn't impressed with the selection in the St marys shops. They didn't carry anything i had ever heard of before.....

I bought my fender strat second hand, but you have to do a lot of research or buy from a trusted source to do that.

Try going up to hot licks in PF or waldorf, they will work with you to find what you want.
I believe they carry all the biggies in electric

He didn't...

If your just starting I would go with something used and cheap

...say he was considering a first marriage. He said 'guitar', specifically, electric guitar!

Mid 1980's Les Paul Custom
Marshall stack, TSL 100, greenbacks,

:lmao: Yeah I know.

Most people that start playing usually do not keep up with it. Thats why I suggested something cheap so in a couple months when it's collecting dust you don't feel so bad:lmao: I have 4 Electric guitars, two amps, 1 acoustic, 2 banjo's, and a fiddle..... They are all collecting dust now. Dang strings are all rusted... that does not feel good on the fingers

Thanks, for the replies. I had considered looking for a used setup but thought it would be a good idea to have the support of a store if I had any questions (thoughts?). I'm definitely not looking to drop a lot on it since I've never tried it before. Figured I'd wait and get a better setup once I was sure I would stick with it.

...this way; If you were going skydiving for the first time, would you look for the best or cheapest equipment?

:lmao:

Guitar is an art for a lifetime. Find a guitar teacher first. He'll hook you up with one of his for starting out. Take lessons as often as you can from them, maybe once week for the first couple of months until he/she says you have enough to keep you busy.

Somewhere along the line, via the teacher and your own comfort level, you'll get the rig that is right for you. Expect to spend around a grand.

Thanks, I had not considered that. I Figured I would have to have guitar in hand before I could get an instructor. :yay:

...you should have no trouble finding one who is more than happy to give you that first lesson with either an extra he has or one from the store he's paying for studio time.

There interest is in getting you to come back and they may get a cut out of anything they tell you to buy at the store. You can go a good bit cheaper than a grand for an OK amp and guit, maybe $500 for both, and just upgrade once you're sure you're gonna keep playing.

Hey Larry you know anyone who might need a Fender Stage 160?

I bought it from a friend who needed some cash, just sitting there now, it's too loud for me.

BTW, not that I am addicted to buying guit gear or anything, what is a Fender Stage 160 and how much you want for it? :lmao:

It's an Amp. I it has 2, 10 or 12" speakers in it. The amp I use has a single 10 and it is plenty loud. I bought the amp in a package deal. I got a nice Ibanez guitar with it, Viper blue, has the fancy tuners on the picking end. Also it came with a foot pedal, I can't remember the name but I pulled it up online once and it was going for a couple hundred $$.

I have no clue what the stuff is worth, I like the guitar it's nice and pretty sitting there so I'm going to keep that.

I don't use Ebay, tried to sell a truck once, bids didn't get to my reserve and they still charged me.

I have a Ibanez GSA60 and a Crate120 amp that I will sell for for real cheap. It was my entry level set up I bought.

I'll even throw in some effects pedals...

I know that feeling. I remember that time I wanted to learn how to play piano, so I spent about $250,000 building a pipe-organ that literally took up the entire front side of my house and rose three stories high.

I managed to squeak out 'Mary Had A Little Lamb' once, but I don't even touch at the damn thing any more. :ohwell:
