Hubby and I just bought a new pop-up camper. Looking to do a little camping in the coming months. Can anyone give a few good suggestions for campgrounds. Thanks.

Depends on the driving distance/time. We normally draw a 4 hour circle for weekends (fri-sun). You can hit a lot of good areas. We've been to and can recommend the following (among so many others):
Getysburg PA - Gettysburg KOA, Little Drummer Boy
Lancaster Cnty PA- Yogibear, Elizabeth Town/Hershey KOA (we do a lot of KOAs)
Va - Fredericksburg KOA (not fancy but nearby and great for that 1st time camping cause you're close to home), Winchester KOA, Misty Mountain Camp Resort, Williamsburg KOA. I suggest you do a search on the area you might want to go to and the search nearby for campgrounds. look for reviews!

BTW- A lot of peple like to go to Point Lookout too.

We're heading to Madison Va on Mem Day weekend and Lurray Camp resort for July 4th. Be aware that holiday weekends book far in advance (sometimes 2 years).

Kerr Lake Recration Area in NC. Just across the border on I-95. 8-10 different campgrounds.

Good camping

They have nice camping at Dennis Point Marina in Drayden if you are looking for something local. They have water and electric hook up cost 1.50 foot length of camper

This may be perfect for us, I don't see that they have sewer hook ups, do they have a dump station do you know??

I don't see alot of info about the campground do they have a playground? are pets allowed?

Pets are allowed at Point Lookout in select campsites.

I like Holiday Inn, Ramada Inn and the Best Western campgrounds.

If I wanted to sleep in a metal box, I'd quit working and live in my car

I prefer my metal box
If I wanted to sleep where some stranger splooged the night before, I would curl up on the floor of an adult theater and take a nap.

next time you put your head down on that pillow at the hotel just remember, last night, that pillow was most likely being used as a butt brace for a 900 lb woman while she was getting porked by some guy she just met at the bar... Im sure none of that stuff leaks through the pillow case and into the pillow itself.

different ways to look at things I suppose.

J.F. A sus ordenes!
I used to be a KOA member and really liked it. I called it camping for city folks because they had a store and sometimes a pool and most importantly they had restrooms and showers. They are typically located near cool things like Luray or Hershey park.

look at North Bend campground on Kerr Damn. The Virginia side of the lake
Ive been to all of the campgrounds around there and none compare.
If you call for reservations, try to get site D-206 or D-207, both are big and are somewhat secluded feeling. or, if you really need the full hookups, go for something in the C section of the campground. (I dont think they have sewer hook ups in any section unless they added it in the last few years or so.)

KOA is about all I use when I travel.
the one in West Yellowstone (actually in Montana) that we stayed at had a huge indoor pool, the store, a shop where they make fresh fudge 24 hours a day, an ice cream cart and a starbucks.

I'm jaded towards KOAs. The KOAs where I used to live were the absolute pits, kinda like your description of the adult theatre floor, bcp. I usually opted for state parks.

state parks are ok in most states, Maryland state parks are for the most part the worst places you can think about camping.

Ive been to a few KOAs that I would not return to but most are good.

Wish me luck, I'm hoping I found a diamond in the rough. Found this campground through the "Virginia is for Lovers" website. Didn't see it on any of the other searches for Campgrounds in VA. Looks great, great price, has everything we want and more. And to top it off we were able to book it for
4th of July weekend. It's called " Chickahominy Riverfrount Park". If you've ever been there let me know how it went. If your still searching for a great place for the 4th, check this place out.

you are not talking about Ed Allens are you?
