Best laptop for photos

I'm in the market to purchase a new laptop and also interested in photography. Any suggestions on what options/specs I should be considering if I plan on using the laptop for storing/editing pictures and videos? Currently looking at 4 GB memory (possibly upgrading to 8), 500 GB hard disk. That's about all I know to check for. Would processor speed be a big factor? Understand would help with video but how fast is enough? Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I got a Gateway from Tigerdirect a few months ago and it works great. The HD display really pops with larger file size pics

You can always get an external hard drive if you need additional storage

I use a cheap Toshiba I got at best buy for my photo stuff. It runs Photoshop CS5 very well, and only has 1GB of memory. I would look at the minimal system requirements of the photo and video editting programs you are using, and got above them, or double them. You shouldn't have any problems then. I would also look at getting an external hard drive to store you photos on.
