Somewhat confused? I live in Calvert and have been told a number of times that Great Mills High is one of the worst schools in Southern Maryland , but I am farely new to Maryland and we did a little research when trying to find our home and school for our daughter and when doing that we were told that St. Leonard Elementry was a great school and for that matter all of Calvert Co. had great schools. Could you tell me where you got the information from ?
Thank you

Great Mills use to be a great school to goto. I graduated almost 10 years ago, and there were some excellent teachers.. Most arent there anymore.. It has gotten worse due to the old principal that was there for a couple years... The new principal will take care of things... In my graduating class we had at least 30-40 students including myself take college courses at St marys our senior year... To me thats not to shabby... Its all in what the students make it too....

Calvert has pretty good schools...

St marys has made a pledge to get better teachers, ( my sister is a teacher in st marys) ... basically they are giving all new teachers the min of 40k to teach... Basically growing a set and saying that they will pay teachers to stay..> The problem with Calvert is that they have an awesome pay scale that pulls teachers into that county... My sister with her masters could be making over 10k more a year in Calvert right now... Starting out as a teacher you make more in St Marys but once you get tenure and have years built up, It isnt the place to be...

Like it mattters, most won't graduate and if they do then they get a job and spend most of the day in here posting instead of working. Is there anything in here remotely interesting

This is why Private schools are getting more and more students. Most of the class ends up with a B.A. or B.S. Degree. Ryken is around 95-98%. Thats great, so why can we not make public schools better.?

Lack of funding... I am a big advocate on spending money towards education, My sister is a teacher, and I believe they get paid crap up until this year where the school board finally decided to grow a set and make offers to teachers some what reasonable.

The problem is Ryken costs a nice chunk of change... Secondly its like college basically, if you dont goto class you wont pass... Your parents are most likely paying for it. Its a lost cause. I know several friends that went to Ryken that have done good for themselves... But I wouldnt say that its around 95-98% I know shoot at least 30 people from Ryken that graduated in 98 that didnt do anything with themselves! lol....

I think it boils down to the ind, and if that ind wants to actually make something of themself. IF they have the push and determination then they will have no issues doing so.
