I picked Enter Sandman.... but I can think of a few that I like even more... In no particular order

Powerman 5000 - When worlds collide
Godsmack - Bad Religion
Blue Orchids - White Stripes
Gel - Collective Soul
Paralyzer - Finger 11
Slither - Velvet Revolver
Pretty Fly (for a White Guy) - Offspring

I'm not super-big into classic rock like most of the selections. Although, I liked most of them.

From Wikipedia "A riff is a short, repeated, memorable musical phrase, often pitched low on the guitar, which focuses much of the energy and excitement of a rock song."
I don't know about "low on the guitar" part?? So, would some of the selections really apply?

BTW Larry, thanks a lot. I'm at work and can't see (or hear) a single thing you've posted:cds:

Great choices on the poll, but I was going to go with Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Can't see youtube at work, but for an AC/DC selection, I'd go with Dirty Deeds.

Larry, you've had me thinking about this for several days now. If we were to define the riff as the "opening" of the song which is instantly recognizable, you hit it with all of your selections. If I can figure out this You Tube thing, here are some of my favorites in no special order

and

And one of my favorite 2 guitarists, Duane & Eric, although this doesn't quite qualify as an opening riff. Enjoy
