Old high school buddy of mine just moved back to MD and is shopping around for car insurance; just for grins, I guess. I don't know who else to suggest he talk to, other'n State Farm.

Suggestions?

Every year I compare my house and auto rates. No one has ever beat state farm. Progressive has been best for the bike here.

State Farm has the highest rates in the country, even when I worked for them years ago, I never had my insurance through them.

Contact First Insurance Group in Waldorf. 301-843-9555.

They are insurance brokers and will shop all the companies available for the best rate.

I just got my bike insurance renewal from Progressive. I'm now looking for another company. They jacked my rates up by $50 from $159 last year. No explanation. I have an immaculate license and have never had an accident.

That's the part they don't advertise. "Insure with US." "Your rates will Progressive(ly) go up." ALL these companies KNOW you need it, so they can do whatever the H*ll they want.:burning:

.....and if it was me.....I would've pestered the H*ll out of 'em until they explained the rate hike.

I have my car insured with USAA. My husband's truck is insured with State Farm and so is our homeowners insurance.

If you're eligible for it, I think USAA is great!

USAA is now offering insurance to former military members who did not sign up while active. Spouses and dependents are also eligible.

A friend of mine saved $500/year (insuring three vehicles) when he switched from State Farm to USAA.

I've been with USAA for almost 30 years. Excellent service and great rates.

I can't play the former military card. /:-\

I remember years ago I was with State Farm (cars and house). I had been with them for over 25+ years. A bunch of us was talking about what we pay for insurance and I was paying the most (even though I never had an accident or claim). The cheapest was Erie. So, I met with Erie (with my State Farm plan in hand) and they quoted (for the same exact coverage) almost half the price! I called State Farm, left a message (never could get to my agent) and asked them what could they do to keep me as a customer. I never got a return, so - I cancelled State Farm and have been a happy Erie customer ever since.

Someone have a local agent contact for Erie, or do you deal with the company via web/long distance?

Progressive just had an across the board rate increase. A lot of our customers have been "surprised" by their new rates!
