Beware of FIOS Salespeople.

Mike

F*** Socialism!
Back in January, I got a cold call from a Verizon FIOS salesperson who was very excited to hear I was interested in replacing my DirecTV with FIOS. My neighborhood in Waldorf has recently been "wired."

I had planned to look into FIOS, and since they called, I thought I'd see what they could offer. I wanted to see what FIOS would charge to replace all the services I had with DTV.

The young salesguy assured he could eadily beat the price and quoted me prices that had me taking the bait hook, line, and sinker.

The install was delayed by the snows through no fault of theirs, of course. And when they did finally come out - they destroyed a flower bed in my eldderly next door neighbor's yard. After he rose hell with Verizon & the County, Verizon came back and repaired the damage. These goons had plenty of room to work around their flower bed...but choose to park in it on purpose it seems.

I have FIOS internet, phone, and TV now - and no lie - it is a good product.

Problem is with the bill. I was promised a certain amount of $$$ locked for one year and then a slight increase for the second year of my contract. I was very happy with the pricing.

Now the regular bils are coming in higher than I was quoted and there is a rate increase already planned for Jun - it will make the monthly bill $50 a month higher than what the salesperson promised.

I have exchanged numerous e-mails & phone calls about the bill, but FIOS refuses to honor their tekephone salesperson's quoted promise. And worse, while it will cost me $360 to het out of the contract - they can raise their rates whenever they want it seems. I am almost willing to pay it just to be out of their greedy little club - I am still thinking asbout it.

I know I screwed up by not getting their promise in writing first - so let this be a warning to anyone else looking to join the FIOS world.
While I do like the service. The FIOS remote and onscreen menus pale in comparison to DTV. DTV's customer service is much friendlier and eager to assist with any problems.

If a FIOS salesperson calls HANG-UP. I suggest if you still want FIOS after reading this, contact Verizon directly.

Verizon is no longer the company it used to be. It is a cut throat organization that lies and steals every day. NEVER take any sales calls directly. NEVER! Call the company directly and get the necessary names, numbers and printed info before you sign anything.
Call the Md Public Service Commission online or by phone and file a complaint. Give them the name and number of the calling company and their price quote.

So it seems. I had a very nice lady at their customer service office state their was nothing they could do about telephone salespersons false promises. They have been VERY careful not to admit that in any of the 15 or so e-mail's we have traded so far - which has been my goal. :banghead:

Tell her that Verizon has hired these people to give false lower prices to lure people into contracts with Verizon and that this is a felony!
Tell her that you have an attorney that will make them do their job, which is to investigate shady business practices by companies. Why the heck are the in business then? What is their job duty?
Try the Consumer protection division office of attorney general in Baltimore 888 743 0023
If that doesn't work try the Md Public Utilities Comission. I can't believe that these people won't go after them.
Heck, call Verizon and threaten them with a lawsuit and public exposure.

I signed up via Verizon's website, which saves you some money in installation fees, along with some other discounts. I found their site to be very forthcoming about what the plans are eventually going to cost you.

Granted, to get the exact pricing schedule on the bundle you personally built, you have to get to the very last screen before you decide to pull the trigger, but you can back out after seeing the actual breakdown without signing up for anything.

I had it installed Monday and it is as advertised. I don't like their guide's menu layouts as much as Comcast's, but that's an insignificant "negative" considering the upgrade in everything else I've noticed.

I have comcast, tv, phone and internet. Last year my contract was up for renewal and I tiold them I was looking at fios. They game me all movies and sport packages and beat fios by $15 a month. I just called comast to renew for another year and they offered the same plan I have for $10 less a month. So 2 years after fios shows up, I am paying $25 less per month for more channels. Thank you fios. :yahoo:

My phone is never plugged in except for outgoing calls and I get regular TV off an antenna. I am entertained as much as I want/need to be and spend a lot less money. I may be a little older but today's tech just doesn't interest me that much. I have no desire to keep up with the Jones'.

And that's how it should work. Some companies even have a 30 day trial period so, if you don't like it, they'll refund SOME OF your costs and you're not stuck with a 2 year contract.

Oh, FIOS is still the best. Fiber optics are far better than copper coax wire but coax still has great signal transport.
Most major providers will play that game with you today. What makes the difference is the service you get when it goes down and how dependable the product is.

:yay: :yay: :yay:
I'm not an "oldman" but I do the same. I hardly ever watch TV and my home phone is seldom used. I get over 40 channels over the air without cable or satellite but I've blocked all but 10 of them because TV programming today is stupidity on stilts...

I expected them to put up a fight when I returned the Comcast equipment and closed my account, but they didn't. Said "You've been a great customer for over 6 years, are you moving?" I replied "No, just decided to give FiOS a spin."

"Oh. Well, thanks for your patronage."

That was that. No hard sales pitch or negotiation. I was pleasantly surprised.

but you didn't hear what they said about you once you hung up...
Actually courtesy is almost required today. Competition demands it.

Of course, there's no way a sales or customer representative can be honestly courteous in your perpetually jaundiced view of life. What a creep. :howdy:
