Beware of (NEW) Solomon's Island Citgo Mechanic

Railroad

Routinely Derailed
I took my car to this place for an oil leak, a brake job, an air bag light and as an add-on a convertible top replacement.

Three thousand dollars later, I have an oil leak, doubtful brakes (the pedal went to the floor when I picked up the car), and a convertible top that the body shop is afraid to open. And the air bag light is still blinking. I expect I will spend twice the anticipated price, because of the extremely poor workmanship of Monte, the mechanic at Solomons Island Citgo.

Maybe it's time to get a new happy car.

Good on you for the heads up.

Bad deal for you, RR. Raise enough complaint about it, and you may get your money's worth.

I would assume they also deal in gasoline.

I avoid any place that has Citgo gas, simply because of Venezuela and Hugo Chavez. I will not give a penny to that commie dictator for fuel, and if that includes boycotting all 7-11's, so be it.

I boycotted all 7-11's when they stopped selling Sanditos. :tantrum

Don't know for sure what a Sandito is, but it sounds like something that will grind the plaque right off my teeth.

Railroad, I am not sure if this is convenient location for you, or any forum members are looking for good mechanic. We live in St. Leonard (Br. Is. side) Our neighbor is our mechanic, has his own shop, lift, everything on his property. He is excellent...been taking our cars there for over 10 years.

Fully Agree with the Boycott of Citgo and anything attached to a station that sells Citgo gas, however, I must point out that 7-11 hasn't sold Citgo gas for quite awhile.

So besides coming on here, did you talk to the owner or manager at Citgo? Was anything down to satisfy your complaints?

Personally, we go to St Leonard Collison Center for all our vehicle work. Plus they have a flat bed and can pick up our vehicles if we need it.

For specific thinks like brakes; go to a brake shop. If you go to a gas station for anything other than gas, you're leaving yourself open to being "shafted."
Never go to a gas station for repair work. JMTC

That Citgo used to have a reputation for doing great automotive work for a fair price.

Every 7-11 around here, and probably in Fl sells Citgo gas. Must be a contract type of thing. 7-11 owners have put out statements in the last four years or so asking customers not to stay away from their stores just because of the gas connection.

Lots of sites - NEX, Florida Turnpike concessions, etc. - have let their contracts with Citgo expire or will not renew when they do expire.

I guess your neighborhood is ahead of the curve.

Why would you even consider taking your car to a gas station/small time repair shop for work like this? These places are not qualified to work on your air bags or replace a convertable top. Brakes, and oil changes, maybe, but I would avoid places like this for any type of "real" repair work.

Monte the mechanic claims to be the general manager, and has told everyone not to let me talk to anyone when I call. I've forgotten what the owner's vehicle looks like, so I can't tell when he's there to time a visit correctly.

Because the mechanic claimed to be expert with all of those things. He lies like a rug.

That's what got me going there - a local resident who said that they take all of their work there. Apparently the place changed hands and has all new staff.

Agree, but I was told this place was unusual. It sure is - in a very bad way.

I had a similar issue with a not-to-be-named-here body shop that someone recommended I go to for "A1" work. Lesson learned. Of course, the guy who recommended this place knows everything about anything. :sarcasm:
