How strict are they on inspections in MD? I have an '81 Harley with drag pipes and 16" apes. Any chance it will pass like that? How much is an inspection....

Any chance that pipes from an EVO softail will fit it? I have a baffled set you could use for the inspection, if so and if necessary.

It's only 20 years for historic. No inspection required. These plates are designed for exhibition vehicles only. Not for commuting vehicles, or vehicles used for passenger or cargo transportation. (In other words vehicle is for show only.)

Clinton Cycles does inspections as well.

This is right off MVA web site

To be registered as an historic vehicle (class L), your vehicle must be 20 model years old or older and must not have been substantially altered, remodeled or remanufactured.

A vehicle registered as an historic vehicle cannot be used for general daily transportation, or primarily for the transportation of passengers or property on highways. It can only be used in exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, occasional transportation and similar uses. An historic vehicle 60 years or older may obtain a one-time, permanent, non-transferable registration.

Who's to say what occasional transportation and similar use is?????

I guess we're all dime store lawyers and don't want to read the Idea of the rules just look for loopholes in them.

You are limited to mileage, and every year when you register, you are required to report the mileage shown on your Odo. 80's motorcycles are pretty easy to disconnect the ODO though.

Get an appointment with Steve at Kessler's (in the phone book) on 235 south below the base. He rides Harley's and is Half the price.
