Birth leave sought for girls

Football Mom!!!
Why should my tax dollars pay for those empty classroom seats that could be filled with concientious, hard-working students who want to learn and make something of themselves instead of spending their time on their backs making welfare babies that I will also have to pay for?

Oh, and all girls that get pregnant while they are young are whores?

A large number of them are, yes.

However, I think a pregnancy should be treated like any other longterm medical condition. If the girls can keep up with their school work, they should be able to get their diploma. I never understood the concept of absences anyway. If you can pass the class, who cares how many days you sit there listening to some teacher drone on?

So then, tell me please...just for general purposes, what is the age limit when one gets pregnant and is not considered a whore? Just curious...I mean, you can't really say anytime out of wedlock, that would mean that the majority of people are whores then...Help me understand your view point...

When they get pregnant by a guy that will have a loving relationship with both their mother and the kid, when they can BOTH support the kid until they reach the age of 18, and DONT HAVE TO LIVE UNDER THEIR GRANDPARENT'S ROOF WHILE GROWING UP.

I get your point, so basically, a good population of the people having babies. By you using caps I guess you are really trying to say that most people that have babies before they are married are living with their parents. None of these people take responsibilty for themselves.

Why was everyone so quick to assume that these people would be on welfare? I had mine when I was 15, got a job right after the baby was born, bf and I got our own place and took care of our own. Finished school, went on to college. Got a job and hold my own sh*t down. I know others that have done the same.

These girls WANT to finish school!!! WANT to do something with themselves.

You passed through my expectations of "not being a whore." I have no qualms with you.

Do you honestly believe that the ones that don't either go onto welfare or mooch off their parents are the exceptions to the rule, or vice versa?

At the moment I know of 4 couples who just had kids. 2 of them were still in high school. Both of those couples are living seperately from one another (the guy is at his parents house and the girl is at her parents house) and the kid spends time at each house. They both are now working for minimum wage while their parents look after their kids. They are both whores and should be wiped from this planet.

The other two couples are not married. They all work full time at respectable jobs, where their child is covered by health insurance. Both of the women have since quit their jobs while the husband continues supporting thier children. They are not whores and, in my eyes, should be allowed to keep their lives.

Congrats on your achievement. Now look at today's society. Does having a kid at a young age with the mom completing school and achieving happen...YES. However, I'm going to guess that it happens A LOT less than young girls having kids and not completing school. Are they living with their parents? Let's think, teenagers getting pregnant and are not married...safe to say they do live with their parents. I would even guess that they go to school too. But they way I understood it was setting the age at which unwed having a baby isn't considered being a whore...Caring for one another and raising the kid until they are 18 and not living at home.

I get what you are saying. The majority probably do mooch off the system, at least until they get it together. But the discussion was about this article about girls that WANTED to finish school.

Everyone was knocking them for what had happened, and I am almost positive that they know better than anyone what is in store for them. Let them finish high school. There living situations and who provides for the kids are between them and their parents. If they are minors, they cannot go on welfare, benefits would have to be applied for by the parents and they would have to qualify. You can't do much with a diploma anymore, but it is a start.

Teenage pregnancy isn't going to end. While it is unfortuante, it isn't going to stop. It wrecks some peoples lives, the mother, the father, grandparents and the babies, but it gives strength to some also. It really can make one grow up.

But, back to the topic, all the girls in question want is their absence to be excused. That isn't a reward, they still have to do the work and pass, they just need the chance.

What would have helped you not be in the situation you came to be in?

I'm a father with teenage children. I talk with them a lot, and don't want them to go through what you've gone through. What would have helped you to not have premarital/adolescent sex?

Let them babysit a good time or two! A friend of mines neice decided she was ready to have a baby. I packed my kids up-8yo/2yo and dropped them off with her. My friend was there so I knew they would be okay, and she wouldn't step in until needed. Seems the one that wanted one didn't realize they don't stay cute and cuddly forever. She no longer wants a baby of her own right now. Might not have been the right way for us to go about it, but whatever works.

My mom talked to me all the time but she wasn't with me all the time. I knew there were risks, but I was on BC and we did use protection. Nothing is 100% except for abstinence.

If I could do it all over again I would have waited. I love my kids to death, but I would have waited.

I certainly would never suggest your kids were a mistake, but I understand you would have waited.

I don't think my kids are thinking "it's time to have a baby". It sounds like you were not thinking that either. You recognize that abstinence is the only 100% BC available. How can I help them understand that before they put themselves in a position of saying "if I could do it all over again I would have waited"?

Back to the topic. Reading that having a dr's note can get you excused abstance. The homework still needs to be done, turned in, and graded. Tests will have to be made up also. If they are going to allow this for new moms then fine. With a Dr's note, proof, and all that. She only asked the board about the moms getting excused. What about the bebe dadde?? Some employers give the dads time off too for helping out and bonding with child. What should they do when that gets brought up????????
Either way, I say if the school accepts the dr's note for whatever reason and the child can't be at school, give them their homework and grade it when it's turned in. BUT, if they are on maternity leave and a school function takes place, they better not show up......they can't be at school.
