Glad to hear things seem to be going well. I was thinking about him this morning. Thanks for asking..
He's been on benadryl and pepcid since cytology of the tumor confirmed mast cell cancer and now the tumor is almost non-existent. So, the oncologist and surgeon said to stop the benadryl as it is reducing the size of the tumor.
Benadryl for tumor reduction? I never would have thought....
It's somewhat of a side effect actually. Mast cells are histimine driven and we all have mast cells. When the immune system gets whacky for whatever reason, the mast cells gather and can form a cancer. Layman terms but you get the idea. The benadryl and pepcid help with the histimine production..doesn't erradicate the cancer but eases the reaction(s).
What a cute pic!! Best wishes for Biscuit. Here he is riding shotgun on the way to his cardiologist. I love the pic! You can actually see where the tumor is, just below the collar there's a spot where his hair was shaved and it just growing in (to the right in the pic).

We are in a holding pattern. I'd taken him to Annapolis for his workup with the oncologist which included bloodwork, needle aspirates of the tumor and the lymph node and a sonogram of his belly. While I like Annapolis for emergency things, I just wasn't "feeling" the oncologist and the others on the medical side.
He needed to have his heart (he has subaortic stenosis..genetic disease Boxers get) rechecked and I chose to go to his regular cardiologist. So we did that last Monday. They also treat cancer. His heart exam was good..not much change except they did put him on Atenolol, but he should be fine with surgery. He also was examined by the oncologists there. They are very loving with Biscuit, the cardiologist lets Biscuit up his lap.

So, the oncologist and surgeon said to stop the benadryl as it is reducing the size of the tumor. They want to see it's true size because when they remove it they have to have to be sure to remove all of it plus enough area to get clear margins.
That's where we are now. He's been off the benadryl for a week but the tumor is still barely there.
He's enjoying his new Bravo raw diet and he's the same old Biscuist and that's a good thing right now.
hey Catt what cardiologist do you go to?
Dr. Luis Braz-Ruivo...he's in Bowie. Hell of a guy!
Im going to see him on Thursday with my Bloodhound. Im so stressed... I have heard he is GREAT!!!!!!
Oh my... this is sooo out of my comfort zone... and I come from the vet tech world. LOL its hard when its your pet going..... the thing is Im going to try to "rule" out any cardiac issues. She is a SAR dog and has had a few "spells" only after she finds her person where she is ataxic, and this last time she fell over but got right back up. The crazy thing is that she doesnt do this while she is "working" or even when she goes to the dog park and runs full blast like a fool. I always check her color, her heart rate and pulse and everything always checks ok. We were watching her BG for a while and she runs low normal.... ooohhhhh Im nervous.. I know he will take care of her and then me when I collapse on the floorYou will love him. His tech is wonderful too. Tell them Biscuit and his mommy say hi! They will put you at ease and will treat your dog like their own.
