I found out today that a role playing game rule book I have had since the 1970's is selling on eBay for $250.
I bought it new in 1975 for $4.00. "The Ringbearer" from Little Soldier Games, based on Tolkien's Middle Earth Mythology.

We used it when I was in the gaming club in college to recreate the Battle of the Five Armies from "The Hobbit."

I hesitate to look and see what my other mid 70's - early 80's gaming materials are fetching.

If I may ...

Some things, man-made, are rarer than gold. Hence the higher prices people are willing to pay.
Gold is not that rare, really.
I have been to a closed gold mine that made more money by giving tours. They showed the exposed vein of gold — it just didn’t make financial sense to mine it at the moment. When the price of gold rises past profit point, they re-hire the miners, restart the equipment, until it becomes unprofitable again.
An old-timer described how he and a buddy went up to Alaska, rented equipment, melted and mined an old river bed. Mined a lot of gold — but after the cost of equipment, transportation, propane for torches, etc they each made less than if they worked construction.

If your children have no interest in your games, and you are no longer playing you may wish to consider starting divest yourself of these items otherwise they may end up in the trash

IMHO the facebook RPG Groups are a better outlet ... people that appreciate the content not some flipper claiming EVERYHING they sell is super rare
