Yes, a three year old should have moved on to more solid foods, however many parents continue to supplement their diet by letting children drink milk. It is very beneficial for the child, anyone can find peer-reviewed, credible research backing that statement by doing a simple google search.
Obviously, I don't see anything wrong with it either way but if they're pumping the milk, how is that any different than drinking cow's milk (except that it's much better for the child, nutritionally and immunologically to breast feed, of course)? That should negate any argument about the emotion behind actually nursing the child.
And you can put milk in a sippy cup instead of using a bottle.
