Boarding kennel in Waldorf

Can anyone recommend a nice boarding kennel in the Waldorf area?

Please do not say Riviera on 231. They are the reason my Dad is looking for another kennel.

Ridge Kennels, it isn't in Waldorf, but a bit further down just past La Plata on Cherry Lane. A friend of mine has lived next door for many years and her son worked at the kennel. She is a loony pet person and she trusted her dogs there whenever she went out of town.

Thanks. I'll pass the info to my parents. :yay:

:yay: I've taken my dogs and cats there for many years. Excellent care of my animals and the kennels are very clean. And yes, I did drive the almost hour to get there from my home in Calvert or St. Mary's. It was definitely worth the trip.

What is wrong with Riveria boarding kennels? I take my dog there to be groomed. I was also told by someone that used to be a groomer that is a great place to board your animals.

My Dad's dog was there for a little over a week. There were given a bag of treats with instructions on how many to give a day, he also had two toys that he took with him.

When they picked him up, the full bag of treats was given back to my parents, and they still had the toys at the front desk. He went all week without his treats and his toys.

We're hoping that he was at least fed and watered everyday.

well with a working kennel its hard to remember to feed a dog there own treats, where theres over 50 other dogs to worry about... now if it was a medicle reson they would have given it to the dog. also about the chew toys, same deal, theres alot of other dogs, its hard to remember little things about them all. somtimes dogs go to the bathroom on them too, and thats hard to clean up. The person at the desk could have forgot to tell the workers, but of coarse they fed and watered the dog... they wouldnt want to build a reputation that bad.
But i dont knowany other kennels other than the ones mentioned... well i'm not sure if some one said this... its in brandywine, just outside of waldorf.

They wrote the treat instructions on his card when he was dropped off. They're supposed to use those cards everyday.

I used to work at a kennel, it it was not hard to follow instructions for individual dogs. My favorite thing was making meals for the dogs because each one had his/her own menu. I wouldn't take my dog back there either.

Most kennels don't allow personal items anymore except your dog's own food.
I've boarded at several kennels that are "Happy" to take items but they don't actually give them to your pet. There has been numerous occasions were my dog's personal items have been returned untouched. It stinks but I am sure they do it for sanitary and health reasons. With kennel cough and parvo you can never be too cautious. (even though your pet is vaccinated he or she is still at risk)

We were told that you could bring their own toys. If they don't want to give them to the animal, then why tell us that in the first place? Just say no.

They usually start out by allowing such items and then change their policy as their business picks up. The fuller the kennel the harder it is to clean up after each pet and their belongings. Plus it leaves evidence that they had an accident in their run = not enough potty time. Just my theory:)

I think they should say, "No" if they don't want the hassle and I know of some kennels that do put it in their information packet.

At my dog's old kennel in Florida they use to give progress reports. It included a detailed outline of feedings, playtime, and behavior. I wish my current kennel did. (Off subject, I know.)

If a kennel can't give a dog personal attention (like it is that hard to make sure each dog has its own toys) they should cut back on the number of dogs they board.

I used to work at a vet office where animals were boarded and its well worth the joy in the animals' faces when they get to play with their favorite toy or have their treats. It creates a better boarding experience for the pets :yay:

My Ex used to work at a Local Kennel, She wanted to start her own one day. I had a great idea for it....

Set up web cams on the cages so that owners could log on at any time and check up to see how the dogs are doing and too see how they are being treated. Not sure if anyplace does that but talk about peace of mind for pet owners
