Books: Where do you get them?

Just checked and I can buy the hardback for less then the paperback. That suprises me.

That's the first place I look.

They often have books for much cheaper than what you can find locally...even after shipping. They're pretty good at finding hard to find/imported books, as well.

Nora Roberts In the Garden Trilogy Red Lily

Loved that trilogy! Have you read the Chesapeake series by Roberts? Another great read!

The LPCity library has a lot of her trilogies in the paperback section if you're not looking to add them to your personal library.

If you go to the Leonardtown Library, the books on the swivel things between the aisles are free. I call then "pool books" because I can get them wet while reading them and you don't have to ever return them. They will not show up on your slip when you get them. They're donated. Also, out front, in the lobby, is an area where you can buy paperbacks for 50 cents or a hardback for $1.

I don't think I have read that one. Will have to look for it.

Have you read that The Sign Of Seven Trilogy? I liked that one and can't wait for the third book to come out in December.

If I am going to read triologies I need to buy them all at once. I just finised the In The Garden book 2 today and now I have to wait for the final.

Yeah, I'm liking that one. I recently (within 5 years) read a kids series by Susan Cooper that was very similar. And, some of the same ideas were in the Potter series.

I also HATE waiting for continued books, and usually wait for them all to be out before I start reading them.

Roberts wrote a series about vampires...didn't like that one...

We should do our own book swap...we could meet with a designated number of books and take the same number home with us. I buy mostly at the thrift stores and library sales...can't lose spending 2 quarters even if you end up not liking the book!

There is a place over in Calvert..........I wish I could remember the name. It is past Cove Point and White Sands. You turn off of the main road (Rt 4) and it's on the corner of an intersection with a circle. One big white building and a side section with lots of junk shops. There is also a used book store and they have tons of books. I wish I could remember the name of the place.

No I hadn't checked anywhere yet. I have been buying alot of paperbacks lately for $7-10 each. That got to be expensive since I can read a book a day. I hit the local thrift store and bought books for 50 cents each.

Oh gawd - you are almost as bad as me. Try the library. I was going to the Leonardtown one but now go to the one in Great Mills. If they don't have the book at your "home" library they will order it in for you. In general L-town had a better selection in house will GM has a wider variety in house. I rarely have a problem reading a whole series at one check out. 8-12 books at a time checked out and returned within plenty of time of the due date. I am saving so much money since I started becoming familiar with the library. Also you can "preorder" your books via the libaray's internet website and also get suggested authors in your favorite genre etc newsletter via email. Also alot of folks don't realixe that the local library includes books from St Mary's, Charles and Calvert as well as the colleges.

:lmao:..Hell if I know, but it's next to Duke's old Bar.....:lmao:

It is not next to Duke's old bar, it was Duke's Bar! I know as I own it. And we have a ton of Nora Roberts!

I will check to see if we have one being looked for.

Today is First Friday in Leonardtown, by the way, so shops are open until 8:00. We will have local poet Randolph Bridgeman reading from his new book "Mechanic on Duty" and also signing copies. Local singer/songwriter David Norris will also be performing. Stop by and check it out!

my best,
Joe

Five years. The actual bar and backbar are still in place. Nobody seems to remember exactly when Duke's closed. It was The Hair Company for about a year, and a restaurant called Penrod's for about 6 months before that. Many people come in and mistakenly think the bar was on the corner, where Cafe Des Artistes is. Cafe was the luncheonette.

Time to visit Leonardtown! There are quite a few new shops and restaurants.

I'm game...when and where? and how many books shall we bring?

Some suggestions for where:

Starbucks porch

Panera Bread

LPCity library front lobby

the coffee quarter

Any ideas for the Leonardtown or Solomons area instead? I haven't been in Room with a Brew - would they have room for a few people swapping books?

Cool idea for Leonardtown! May be able to get up there tonight! Will David Norris be right at your shop?

The Fox Run shopping center in Calvert has Second Look Books. They trade books for store credit and have some new books. They will also special order books.
The Prince Frederick Library has a section of books ( used) that can be purchased for betweem $0.50 and 5.00.
Also strange as it sounds, the gift shop in Calvert memorial sells used books for $0.50 each.

I haven't ever been into Nick's but I should I hear it's really good.
