The good news is that my coffee was already made, so I feel like I should buy a lottery ticket.

It's been raining crazy here off and on for a few days and overnight it was a deluge.

No deluges, but it's been raining pretty steady, going into the 2nd day now. Yesterday, it rained consistently throughout the day with very few breaks in the action. I was actually worried about it freezing last night, as it was 34 yesterday morning, but it warmed up after the sun went down and the sky became overcast. It's 45 degrees out with rain off and on so far. A good day to have a fireplace.

We're just sitting tight waiting for the winds that are supposed to start around 10am. Still predicted 50-60mph gusts. Kinda foggy out there now.

Whenever I hear of a storm that might knock out power the first thing I do is brew a pot of coffee and put it in a thermos. Seriously, nobody wants to know me if I wake up and can't have coffee almost immediately!!

OMG I'm so glad you posted that! I was sitting here wondering how I was going to tolerate coffee once the pot has cooled down and you prompted me to put it in a thermos to keep it hot.

:dork:

As saturated as the ground is here, I expect anyone with a chain saw will be busy today. Trees will be falling over and going BOOM!

I keep my kitchen on the cooler side in the winter, and the coffee cups are pretty cold. I don't like pouring hot coffee into cold cups, steals all the heat, so I put the cup in the toaster oven. 2 minutes at the 'keep warm' (180*) setting.

Yeah, I know that doesn't help when the power is out, just a little tip.

I have always wonder about that. Is a tree more susceptible to be blown over when the ground is dry, or when the ground is wet? I've been of the thought that if it's wet, that any force to topple the tree would need to be greater due to water creating a greater suction force within the soil, as in a hydrostatic pressures, as opposed to dry soil.

I don't remember a lot of calls for the fire department to clear the road of a fallen tree during a drought, but they get a lot of calls during rain and high winds.

Kind of? I just got back from Wawa in St. Mary's, down toward the base. Viz is roughly half a mile along 235. When I went back over the bridge, I couldn't see the river. Hell, I could barely see the car in front of me. It was a quarter mile coming through Solomons 47 on this side (in the Ranch Club) and 52 on the other side. Still intermittent rain and it's almost eerily quiet out.

A pine tree had already dropped this morning into Rt249 in Callaway. It must have been dead a while because it had broken into pieces.
