That was one of the loudest "BOOM"s I ever recall hitting this place. That HAD to take out windows up in 7D and Cobb island area...

She said it was crazy loud, probably the loudest she can remember since we moved into our house. (Almost 15 years)
I was living on Brown Rd in 7D back when in the 80s Dahlgren was testting the charges for 16" guns. That was loud. This was louder...LOL.

Dahlgren notice sounds like small arms.. MAYBE a chain gun, that would have been in the area of a very large caliber explosive round.. That was LOUD.. Never heard anything that big from Dahlgren.

Was it louder than when the Stuart petroleum barge blew ? You could hear that in Lusby .

I was away somewhere that day...don't recall now where exactly....but was not "in town" when that barge blew up. I lived in Colton's Point then. I recall it was all anyone was talking about down in Piney Point after the accident; we played darts at Old Country Inn which was a favorite locals hangout down here then.

We were at Eglin AFB, FL when the battleships were being refitted at Pascagoula, MS in the early 80's.
Would hear the rumble in the distance when they were in the Gulf test firing the 16's.

I was working at Injun Head at the time...the engineering team responsible for getting the 16" gun ordnance back on line were in the same general office area where I worked. (I was a rocket and missile motor guy). I was running shock tests on my aircraft stuff (new launchers and motors) at Dahlgren at the same time the 16" tests were ongoing..and our instrumentation office/trailer for the shock test facility was only a very short distance from the gun emplacement. You got used to being hammered and shook after a while....LOL...
