Pete Buttigieg Pushed For ‘Transit Equity’ Amid Uptick In Airplane Close Calls

As that situation developed in Austin, Buttigieg posted videos in honor of “Transit Equity Day.”

“Transit is not just about getting from A to B, it’s about reaching jobs, education, health care, and so much more,” Buttigieg wrote on X. “On this Transit Equity Day, we reinforce our commitment to transportation systems that serve those who count on them the most.”

Duffy blasts Biden, Buttigieg for ignoring report about failing air traffic control system: 'DID NOTHING!'

In an X post on Tuesday, Duffy shared an excerpt from a report published by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) entitled "Air Traffic Control: FAA Actions Are Urgently Needed to Modernize Aging Systems." The report was published on Sept. 24, 2024.

"A government watchdog warned Biden & Buttigieg about the failing air traffic control system," Duffy wrote.

"Look at this report. They knew the air traffic control system was strained AND STILL DID NOTHING!"

Duffy went on to say that he was working with President Donald Trump to modernize the system.

"Working with @POTUS, we are going to do what no administration has done: deliver an all-new, envy of the world ATC system," he concluded.

In the passage that Duffy highlighted, the report noted that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) "has been slow to modernize some of the most critical and at-risk systems."

"Specifically, when considering age, sustainability ratings, operational impact level, and expected date of modernization or replacement for each system, as of May 2024, FAA had 17 systems that were especially concerning," the report said.

Wouldn't some of that infrastructure funding have gone to something like this. Probably couldn't find a DEI company to fix it.

The transportation Americans use the most is the automobile, and the highways in this country are sorely lacking. They are worn out they are crowded, and they are inadequate. Trains are just too expensive and planes are just too damned aggravating and sardine like.

The Subway in DC should go to Baltimore, and it should not stop at the Census bureau, but should go to Lexington Park. Indian head and La Plata.
The old right of ways are there and just need clearing.

Run right down the middle of Rt 5 from Branch Ave. another leg out Route 4 or Central Ave, another from New Carrolton to Annapolis.

there already is rail between Balt and DC ... but I'm not sure how useful that really is for commuters, but I think they come into Union Station

On Sunday, the transportation secretary went on NBC News’s Meet the Press and insisted Newark was safe.

“It is,” he protested. “I fly out of Newark all the time, my family flies out of Newark.”

Hours later, speaking to the conservative radio host David Webb on SiriusXM, he told a different story. “My wife was flying out of Newark tomorrow, I switched her flight to LaGuardia,” he said in comments first reported by Gizmodo.

Newark Liberty is one of the biggest airports in the New York area and the 12th busiest in the US. In 2023, it served more than 49 million passengers, its heaviest load on record.

For several months the airport has been troubled by technical glitches, combined with a shortage of air traffic controllers and runway construction. In the past two weeks it has suffered three radar outages because of computer problems, traumatizing its staff and causing disruption to flights.

I really don’t see how light rail would help people from THIS county. Because there’s no real point to riding to DC unless the terminus was right where you wanted to be or a short walk. It doesn’t help - US.

It would however help people coming HERE, specifically PAX. A rail going from up the road ending at PAX would be useful for the base although it would probably be necessary to have shuttles (I don’t know PAX if they already have those).

If you are traveling from here to DC via rail you would then get on the metro.

We need more light rail and rail infrastructure in general but Republicans always vote against it.

There used to be flight shuttles from PAX to LKE until 2000 when the accident happened.

I see two benefits. One is easy access to the airports. It's a pain right now to drive in and park for a week, or to have someone drop you off, and expensive to Uber/taxi/etc.

The other is increased tourist trade for DC. More people would go north for a day trip, a show, dinner...
