What is Esperanza Lanes like during public hours? Is there a decent chance of getting some lanes or is it all league practice or otherwise crazy filled? This is the only bowling facility down here, correct?

I've only been there a couple of times and it didn't seem very busy, but I'm sure there are leagues that play there. The only other bowling alley I know of close by is on base.

Did a Google search and found this:

That guy that runs the place is a grade a dick.

The last time I bowled there I was on one of the leagues. My ball got a bad chip cut out of it because of the equipment. Since I had just purchased the ball, I knew it had been damaged there.

When I brought it to his attention and asked him about repairing the ball, the answer I got was "Oh well!! #### happens." I haven't been back there since. I do all my bowling these days on the base. The alley is smaller but the people will work with you when something happens and they are generally more friendly.

Esperanza is okay...amf in waldorf is much more expensive and has leagues most nights until 9pm...and st. charles bowl in waldorf has been closed for a couple of years now

I hardly see Esperanza open, usually just for leagues. I've bowled on the base a few times too, haven't really been anywhere else. Lord Calvert looks like an ok place, but I'd rather keep my money in St Marys County :lmao:

I've bowled at Lord Calvert a few times. Was there NYE. I like it. Fairly clean, decent food at the bar, cold beer, and the lanes are in pretty good shape with very few needs to call for a ball return or boogered up pin setting.

I bowled at Lord Calvert about 6-7 years ago. From what I remember, those lanes were still natural wood. They may have changed to synthetic surface since then. Almost all have. Too bad. Old schoolers like me still prefer wood.

yep your choices are pretty much narrowed down for you here...you got a crap bowling alley and a crap movie theater that can somehow charge over 8 bucks for a movie ticket when the seats are about to break into pieces and the screen isn't as wide as JLo's butt...so yeah I have pretty muched summed up st. mary's. :) :yay:

Not to mention the great care :sarcasm: taken of the lanes. You look down the lanes and you see footprints and dirt, the pins sound like they are broken and you get very little pin action compared to the alley on base.

I think he spends about $5 a year on repairs.

Well, it turns out they were packed Thursday evening with league players even though it was a public night. The guy at the desk was pleasant and said that Friday after 9PM and during the day on the weekend was fairly easy to get a lane. Pretty lame.
