Let me clarify. The regs state you have to have a reflective vest if you ride at night. A guy riding a goldwing with lights all over the thing and can be seen for a mile in the fog rides up to the gate. If he doesn't have a reflective vest he gets turned back. The regs don't leave any room for logic or reason to bend them.

Thank you for the clarification. :yay:

It was an eye opener following Dutch home from Motovations. He was very hard to see, and I told him that. The other cars apparently didn't see him as well.

I think I'll wrap Christmas lights around him...the twinkling kind.

Here is the last reg. I got.

OPNAVINST 5100.12 and NASPAXRIVINST 5560.2.

(4) Properly worn hard-soled shoes with heels. (Riders are encouraged
to properly wear over the ankle shoes or boots.)

Of course he's not at Pax.

I got busted for all of that at Webster just as they were starting to implement it. The guard told me they were following Pax River rules.

And if the reg says "encouraged", that means it's not mandatory. The guard might have mentioned it to you, Bob, but could not enforce it. So, was he really busting you, or just making a recommendation?

He told me "Since June".. but I never saw anything.

Last I saw was the Long Sleeves, Long Pants, Hard Sole Shoes.. Brightly Colored top.

That's one that gets me. All they make you wear on top is a long sleeved shirt. Bright colored. Yet they won't let you get by with fingerless gloves.

Thank you for the clarification. :yay:

He needs a REAL bike..... big, lots of lights, ample room for two plus luggage, easily visible....

JUSt got off the phone with Bev Jeffas..

The only change in requirement RIGHT NOW, is the new ERC requirement.

ERC every three years for Standard, and touring bikes.. ERC, and an additional course for the Sport Bike Riders.

I just signed up for the 5 March ERC.

I carry a copy of that particular page with me because a gate guard at Pax questioned me on it. I don't like over the ankle shoes unless they are boots and I don't wear my boots to work. Steel toed shoes.

According to bev, the change is on the Cpt's desk awaiting signature.

The hard soled shoes was the local Instruction, but the Navy Inst states over the ankle (but can be high topped sneakers).. They are changing the local instruction to call out over the ankle shoes/ boots to be the same as the Naval Inst.

I wear boots anyway. Change into shoes I keep here at work.

Aren't you afraid of bikes?

I like posing on them and that's it.
Was it night? Did you have your new sunglasses on?
I was born a blonde and have my moments but this was not one of them.

You can buy him lots of light add ons for xmas.

Reflective duct tape is in the budget. His jacket and helmet are invisible at night.

You mean like a manly bike or a Gold Wing?

It's the "REAL" part I'm chomping the popcorn on.

I'm imagining the little hairs on the back of his neck standing up..you people are funny.

Where did you get that info? Here is the reg.

(d) Sturdy footwear is mandatory. Leather boots or
over the ankle shoes are strongly encouraged.

My Sweetest Boy
Guy I saw fly off his bike and through the air a few weeks ago had on a really nice sturdy pair of boots, very nice fancy jacket with the little plate thingies in it and a pretty silver full face helmet. He was still very dead as well.

My silver jacket meets the reflective requirement.

You mean in a bikini with the alluring look like in the bike magazines?

My butt looks better in Levi's.

I'm convinced I'm a masochist, but he's happy and has his "Boz". I smile when I see him light up and I worry like heck when he's on her.

The cowboy hat would not work of course but if you got a drill and a hot glue gun you could fix up his helmet.
