Thats the problem nowdays. Everyone is in everyone elses business. Punching a child is wrong, but smacking or whaching upside the head if necessary should be allowable. I had to lightly smack my 4 year old step daughter one time in a grocery store for throwing a major tantrum cause I wouldnt buy her a candy bar. One quick smack to the back of her head and she shut up. And it didnt hurt except her feelings. I smacked her ass alot harder. And I made her eat soap once because she was playing in the softsoap when she wasnt suppose to and poured it in a bathroom cup and when I had a headache and filled the cup with water to take aspirin, I got to drink soap. So I figure if its good for me, its good for her. After that she stopped messing with things that werent hers. :spank:
In the Family Law Article of Maryland Code where "abuse" is defined you will find this little gem, "Nothing in this subtitle shall be construed to prohibit reasonable punishment, including reasonable corporal punishment, in light of the age and condition of the child, from being performed by a parent or stepparent of the child." In other words, spanking is okay, use it if you have a need.

I feel this is a bad react to a child getting out of hand. A person who does this may use too much force, hit the child with a bony part of the hand, cause them to lose their balance, bite their tongue, or cause a neck injury.

Years down the road, that child will still flinch if anyone so much as reaches over their head.

I just personally don’t like it.

Hit them on their butt.

I agree. I used to get popped and smacked in the head and face by my Dad and I find it very humiliating to hit a child in the head. The most I have done is pop her mouth, lightly, to make my point, and that is after a warning, not out of the blue.

I don't believe in hitting a child..period.

I have given a spank or two, but that is about it. That is only when it is absolutely needed. I usually send her to her room and I also take a time out to cool my jets so I don't go off.

She got into trouble for throwing and hitting at day care. I think that bringing her home and spanking her does not teach her a lesson to not hit someone else. Instead she looses something like TV.

That's my issue..I think it just teaches how to whack when angry. Besides, how could you hit that pretty, sweet little girl.

Oh, I understand completely. We have Emmy.

See! There ya go!

Unfortunately, or not, karma came back on chicklet a week ago. Remember the incident at school when I had to pick her up?

Well, last Friday evening she was outside playing with neighbor boy and his friend. Friend had the other end of her jumprope and they were playing tug-o-war. He accidently let his end slip and it whacked her in the exact same spot where she got that other kid. Her jumprope has wooden handles.

Her black eye is almost gone now.

She has also learned the lesson of what it feels like since I explained to her this is how XXX felt when she whacked him. She SO got it!
