My understandig was they were gonna make an attempt to get the whole day in.

I'm still waiting for Ehirlich to declare a state of emergency. That mansion he's in must be awful nice because he sure as hell ain't concerned about this storm like every other state in the Mid-Atlantic is.

:war:
I'll remember this in November

 You weren't going to vote for him anyway.

BTW, I'm not concerned about it either

According to WTOP... Calvert and St. Mary's stands to get the most rainfall for Maryland...

Tropical Depression Ernesto is expected to reach our area by Friday afternoon. ABC-7 Chief Meteorologist Doug Hill says the says Ernesto is diminishing, but the D.C. metro area could see three to six inches of rain Friday afternoon into Friday night.

Areas near the Chesapeake Bay such as Anne Arundel, Calvert and St. Mary's Counties could see four to eight inches of rain, Hill says.

st. mary's too now!!!

Due to the approach and potential impact of Tropical Storm Ernesto, St. Mary’s County Public Schools will close 2-hours early on Friday, September 1, 2006. Buses will begin their return routes at that time. All P.M. prekindergarten, after-school, and evening activities are cancelled. A decision on weekend activities is forthcoming. Parents are reminded that schools are closed Monday, September 4, 2006, in honor of Labor Day.

Pphhht, a little wind and rain do not constitute an emergency.

Let the panic begin! :jameo:

We had worse thunderstorms and more rain than this earlier this summer.

FYI the reason NC was concerned enough to declare a state of emergency is that we had thunderstorms for three days straight prior to the storm. Considering that our coastal towns have many low-lying areas, we were pushing it in terms of flooding to begin with. Dumping an extra 8-ish inches of rain complicated the matter. Not to mention that we have rain expected for the next 7 days.

Ya'll are really harsh... I don't think it's as much a panic as it is the fact that several of the bus routes pass through low lying areas that flood.

Just as in a snow situation, the schools are damned if they do, damned if they don't.

If they don't close and something happens that can remotely be blamed on the weather, you can bet your butts that there will be parents outraged that the powers that be didn't close the schools.
